Career High for Shea Gilgous Alexander vs Jazz. Should get more MVP talk.

How does he get more? He's already #1 on the MVP Ladder:

Since when does 54 points get it's own thread?

It's Joker's to lose. His stat line tonight is just one of his many triple doubles for the season. Tonight's was ridiculous

Edit

SGA
32 point average
5.4 rebounds
6.1 assists
53% FG
34.8 3P%

Joker
30.1 point average
13.3 rebounds
9.9 assists
56.3% FG
47.5 3P%

SGA leading with steals and a slight edge with scoring average

Everything else... Joker

SGA is an easy candidate to vote for to a voter who wants to find a reason to not give Jokic another MVP.

He's an excellent candidate worthy of an MVP if his team wins 67-69 games.

It will be a very close race made closer if the Nuggets charge into 2nd place in West.

100%
It's why he didn't win it the year Embiid did. Too many people can't get over the fact he's got white skin.

Don't really agree with this take, Jokic winning or not winning it doesn't have much to do with his skin color. It'll have more to do with the fact that he's already won it 3 times. So despite the fact that this is by far his best statistical season, and the fact that the Nuggets are a play-in team without his presence, it's possible that he might not win the award this year.

Voter fatigue is a real thing when it comes to this award, and historically, guys with sustained greatness like Jokic eventually stop winning the award because this becomes their "baseline" of just a normal season. It happened to Giannis as well, in fact his numbers this year are great as usual, but this is just a normal Giannis season so he doesn't have a lot of buzz around winning the MVP right now.

SGA on the other hand, hasn't yet won the award, and his team continues to improve (as does he) and it seems like the right time for him to win the award, despite the fact that Jokic is having a better year statistically.

Also OKC playing at a high level again this year even though Mr. Glass Chet is out all year goes into the narrative that SGA is deserving.

I would still give it to Jokic and his 30/13/10 on 57/47/81 shooting simply because he is the most valuable player in the league, he is surrounded by much worse talent, and his best defender has missed half the season and his team had to let go of his best D&3 player due to salary crunch.

There's no way I'd be mad if SGA won the award, he's the best player on the team that might finish with the best record, and traditionally that's been the guy that wins the MVP award.

But as you mention, Jokic's numbers are beyond insane. I don't know if people are giving him enough credit for becoming one of the best 3-point shooters in the league by percentage with all the other stuff he does. He's also become more consistently aggressive offensively. And, as we know the Nuggets would suck majorly without him. So his case isn't just a numbers case, it's a numbers and value case. But, he's not a lock to win it, and will probably need to finish averaging a triple double to get the attention of voters ready to look over him because he's won it before.

If you have mvp stats for 10 years then you should win the mvp all 10 years. It's a dumb award to say, "well Joker already won it 3 times so he shouldn't get it again".
