Seeing him on the Lakers bench in Lakers gear is tripping me out.

Based on the police response, it sounds like there's more personal risk than he bargained for. Another miscalculation

Is there a link on this? I saw his address floating around Twitter the other day. I think it would be legitimately dangerous for him to go back to DFW or the AAC. That's another reason why I don't expect him back next season.

Can you imagine how giddy other GMs in the league must get when they see Nico's name pop up on caller id?? They probably have a special ringtone and everything just for him!

This is what we just talked about at work LOL. Special ringtone for Nico and ANSWER THAT PHONE. I'm even answering spam #s just in case it's Nico

Is it possible LA tampered and paid Nico off to make this trade? It is that or Luka fooled around with the wrong woman. Makes zero sense and the "fat" shaming campaign is just cover. Dude can run circles around All Pros.

Averaged 34 per game last year.

Way more to this story than the plebes will ever know.

Don't forget arrogance.

I have been thinking about what has to happen in the next 10 years to make me think this was a good trade because it doesn't make sense.

I think at a minimum, these things have to happen in next 10 years:

1. Mavs NBA titles > Laker NBA titles
2. Mavs WCF visits > Laker WCF visits
3. Luka turns into some combo of Chandler Parsons/ Kawhi Leonard/ Joel Embiid/ Zion Williamson with his body breaking down.

I hate the trade, and I legit feel bad for Mavs fans because they had their man for the next decade, and the arrogance, buddy connections, and incompetence of a couple of people within their organization took that away (likely).

It's a superstar league. That's how you get good. That's how you stay good. That's how you keep your franchise's championship window open the longest. And the stars have to align to find that guy unless you are the Lakers. To trade 10 years of that for 2 is absolute malpractice

Mavs didn't have a choice.

He is about to sign a 5 year 340 million supermax. You really want to give 65 million a year to a guy who refuses to play defense, refuses to get in shape, eats nothing but McDonalds, and is already missing half of the season at age 25?

No free agents ever want to play with him BC he has the ball the whole game, even if you found someone willing to play with him you wouldn't be able to pay them BC Luka is taking all the cash, and you have to watch him complain to the ref about a no-call all game while his man is scoring uncontested layups on the other end.

Luka has incredible skill, maybe the most of our lifetime. But he is a bad teammate and he will crush any team's salary structure.

I respectfully disagree with almost everything you said. In regards to the salary:

When you sign a "supermax" player in the NBA, you cannot technically "go over the salary cap" because the supermax contract is designed to be within the cap limitations, but it allows a team to dedicate a significantly higher percentage of their cap space to that single player compared to a standard contract, essentially "pushing the limits" of what they can spend on one player while still remaining compliant with the overall salary cap rules.

Jalen Brown signed a supermax and won a championship as the 2nd best player on his team. Mark Cuban got out before the dumpster fire, smart business man.

Agreed. If the Mavs fans really want to have their protest heard they need to just not show up. Acres of empty seats would speak loudly.

Dallas fans will say things to cope, but there is no way to spin that this doesn't gut the franchise.

If you started all over and made every team draft, Luka is anywhere from the 2nd-4th pick regardless of what fast food he eats. He's literally the guy you build the next decade+ of your franchise around.

He's also the only reason why free agents were interested in going to Dallas - because he can make you a championship contender by himself if you have any sort of supporting cast.

To only get back an aging Anthony Davis (who is a good player but not the superstar that will win you a championship) and a fairly useless 2029 pick……. that's just pitiful.

The Mavs had a title window the next 10 years that just disappeared overnight. Now the Lakers have the perfect setup going into the post-Lebron era.
Who in Dallas is coping? There's active protests at the AAC and a literal shrine to Luka.
Where you been man? Hope all is well, other than what went down over the past couple of days.

You know a trade is the worst thing ever when fans of one of your team's perennial rivals (like myself) feel genuinely miserable about it happening. Been a Rockets' fan since the 70s and was happy to see Davis win the crowd a bit yesterday.

Hopefully Luka and LeBron hate each other and they fall apart.

I'd suggest in addition to "not going"…take a minute and find your state representative and email them to let them know you are firmly against any legalization of gambling in the state of Texas. Especially anything involving the Adelson family

He's listed as questionable but there are a few regulars already out. Probably a coin flip.

I'd bet he plays a limited number of minutes since this will be his last game for a week.

Why not have that money spent here?

Everyone would still hate it, even if it was knecht and AD and 2 firsts. First, because no one wanted to trade the generational talent. And second, because Nico still didn't shop around and could have gotten much much more.

Nico is apparently a sociopath who didn't realize how big of a connection fans had to Luka or didn't care. I was constantly complaining about Luka's attitude and conditioning, so I'm not some super Luka fan. But to trade him is unfathomable when he's 25 and is not wanting to be traded. And it's even more unfathomable to trade him for peanuts the way Nico did when you consider the hauls that teams have gotten in return for other lesser players.
This is kind of a dumb take...and I'm tired of listening to Mavericks fans spew this crap.

The NBA has never had a trade where a 1st Team ALL-NBA player got traded for another 1st Team ALL-NBA player.
Referring to Anthony Davis as "peanuts" is ignorant.

The Mavericks were not trying to get a "haul" of draft picks that would most likely become useless players. The NBA is not the NFL.
Draft picks do not mean as much in the association as they do the league. The most valuable NBA draft picks are the ones that end up in the top 10....after that...its mainly luck if you can get an effective player.

The Dallas Mavericks have never had a Defensive Player of the Year.
The Dallas Mavericks haven't had a player make the All Defense team since Tyson Chandler made it in 2011.
That is also the last time they won the NBA Championship.

The Mavericks typically have an elite offense....but its very rare that they are elite on defense.
Most (almost all of them) teams that win multiple NBA titles are elite defensive teams.

The Mavs replaced their weakest defensive player for the best two way big in the NBA.
If the Mavs can get healthy this will be the best defensive team they've ever had in franchise history.

One of the problems that I had with Luka is that he only played about 80% of the games each season. The most games he ever played in a season was his rookie year....and that was about 73 games.

If you look at Kobe, Dirk, Lebron, Jordan, Tim Duncan, Hakeem, David Robinson....etc these franchise players were almost always playing 75-82 games each season. These players were also in great shape.
This is also why their respective teams were regularly winning 55 plus games/year.

The constant missed games, the lack of effort on defense, and missing half the season at age 25 is directly related to conditioning.

Anthony Davis was a 1st Team All-NBA player 5 years ago. He's about to turn 32 and has played around half the games for the past 5 years. He's still a very good player, but he's five years past his prime and will not age well.

If they had traded for LeBron, would you be saying "why are y'all complaing? They just traded for arguably the best player of all time!"
