People say we aren't a contender.
The only worry I had after a few games (when it was obvious we were a playoff team), is if our youth was going to bite us in the playoffs. But this team is incredibly mentally strong. Lots of guys that have been losing enough the last few years to be able to bounce back quickly.
I saw someone say that of all the best teams in the NBA, we have both the highest ceiling and the lowest floor.
Expounding on that, we are heavily dependent on very young players with no big game experience (other than Wemby's Olympics games where he was outstanding.) It is normal and expected for young guys to make mistakes in the pressures of the playoffs. However, the Spurs have also come back several times and showed a lot of mental fortitude late in games to take control and pull out the wins.
Other teams have great players for rim pressure, but Castle, Fox, and Harper is a really unique trio that no other team can really match the relentless 48 minutes of attacking the rim, and we need to keep that focus of rim pressure rather than having those possessions where we make one pass and JuJu launches a three.
We obviously have weaknesses (PF physicality, inconsistent and lack of shooting talent) but we also have some pretty elite strengths with Wemby, Fox, Castle, and our depth. We clean the glass, draw fouls, limit our own fouls, limit turnovers, and pass well. We can clearly beat anyone in the league, but we could also get pushed around by Denver or Minnesota.
Going to be a good learning year and I can't wait to see who we bring in to address the PF needs this summer.
