Greenwalt and Jay Austin are off to good starts in A+ as well. Austin is still only 19.

I really think we need to draft a hard throwing, high end college pitcher who can make a splash sooner rather than later.

Koby Clemens hit another HR. He now leads his league with 5.

AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS
.261 11 46 9 12 2 0 5 11 29 1 15 0 0 .271 .630 .901

He also has 15k's and 1 walk in 46 ab's. Terrible.

Glad to see my high school teammate Ross Seaton doing well...been keeping up with him, and talked with him the other day and he's happy with his start and hopes to get the move to AA sometime this year

So does Adam Dunn. That doesn't stop him from being a high caliber player year after year.

Get over it. Clemens is getting better.
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Striking out 33% of the time will not get Clemens to the bigs. Comparing him to Adam Dunn is a joke, Adam Dunn walks over half as many times as he K's. Does Clemens come close to that? The 5 HR's to start the season are more likely a fluke than the 15K's 1 BB. Try again. The only way Clemens every sniffs a Major League roster is out of a favor to his daddy.

So you are going to discount the ridiculous power numbers but say that he has no chance to improve his BB/SO ratio?

Whatever you say genius..

At this point, you have shown to speak out of pure emotion while all I am doing is giving facts. I know you hate Clemens. I really dont give a **** anymore. Stop derailing the thread. The endd.
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
How am I speaking out of pure emotion when I am giving you #'s. Go look at Adam Dunn's minor league numbers. The guy was well above a .300 hitter. Clemens hasn't done that to this point. Running into a few HR's early in the season does not make him a legit prospect. The fact that he doesn't walk and K's 32% of the time hurts him. That will not get him on a major league roster. I hope that things change, but you don't learn plate discipline over night and especially after you have been in the organization for 5 years. It would be one thing if he showed good strikezone judgement and walked alot, but he doesn't do that. He K's, which means he swings at everything. That is not a good sign for future development.

He also doesn't have a position, which is another problem. Maybe, if he can correct some of his problems at the plate he could find a home with an American League team as a DH. To this point in his career, he has been slow to climb the ranks, because of a few of things.

1. He doesn't hit for average.
2. He doesn't walk but K's alot.
3. He has no real position.

That is alot to correct at his age moving forward. Again, I hope in 3 or 4 years you can pull this up and I eat a ton of crow, because you and I both know that the Astros can't afford to miss on anybody in their system.

Dude, Clemens walked 50 times last year while striking out around 100 in about 420 ABs. That's not a great walk rate but it's decent and should improve. He had a .420 OBP so he fits the picture of a slugging, high OPS guy.

He's about the same age as Gaston, Steele and Shuck, the other high profile offensive guys who are currently at AA. He's just been playing longer since he's straight out of high school.

Don't write him off yet.

Jamar-Thanks for bringing something to this discussion besides a "STFU". It is much appreciated. I felt I gave numbers that were unbiased. Just trying to keep the discussion rolling. It is a minor league thread, and we were discussing a minor leaguer in the Astros organization. Thought that was the point of this topic.

Looks like Meyer went 2-4 in LoA last night. That ups his avg. to .404. Good to see a corner infielder hitting the ball.

Theres a difference between keeping the discussion rolling and making things up like "he doesnt walk."

Can you not agree to disagree? Or are you going to have a 6 month pissing contest about Koby Clemens?

Stop ruining a good thread ladies- agree to disagree and move on

I was looking at some Astros minor leaguers of the past (basically the guys we heard would be good but never panned out or guys we traded away). Interesting results:

Carlos Hernandez- remember this guy? He, Oswalt, Wade Miller and ____ looked like they could be a solid starting 4 in the early 90's; he was having a nice year in around '02 then hurt himself sliding into 2nd in Chicago and was never the same; too bad only Oswalt panned out in that crew; anyway Hernandez is pitching again and actually had a nice year as a starter for TB's triple A affiliate last year; hard to believe he's only 30

Max Sapp- catcher of the future and a first round pick I believe- apparently out of baseball.

Chris Burke- struggling at AAA in Braves system

Juan Gutierrez- traded him to Arizona for Valverde a few years ago; actually pitched decently for them last year in relief;

Matt Albers- traded to Balt for Tejada- struggling as bullpen guy for them

Troy Patton- Tejada deal; had a decent year last year at AAA but still hasn't made majors for Baltimore I don't think; injury issues

John Buck- another Astros catcher of the future; backup/part-time catcher in KC who hits for some pop but not much else

Jason Hirsch- traded to COL for Jason Jennings; still a minor league guy but had a nice run as a starter last year for NYY AAA team.

Jason Lane- AAA New Orleans (Mets system).

There were more but I forget.

Luke Scott - Orioles, having a decent career

Jordan Lyles was pretty good again last night for Corpus. 5IP 1ER 7K. Good to see him making the adjustment to AA so smoothly at this point.
jamar

Definitely good sign on Lyles; 3 solid starts so far.

By the way, your boy Clemens is up to 6 homers and 15 RBIs and is .271/.333/.627 for a .960 OPS.

Just sayin.

Tim Redding is the blank you're missing there.

Wade Miller gave the Stros a couple quality years. Actually he was a bit older than Roy, no?
jamar
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah, Redding; couldn't remember his name.

Miller may have come up came up a year or two before Oswalt but they were around the same age- Miller just threw his arm out unfortunately.
astros45
How long do you want to ignore this user?
we traded Redding for Quintero i believe

Scott Elarton is who i thought the blank was referring to

Taylor Bucholtz was doing good bullpen work for the Rockies recently, he may be injured though, but he's had some good seasons
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Wade Miller had some of the worst mechanics I have ever seen. I loved him for his bulldog attitude on the mound but it is really no wonder his arm blew up.

On Clemens, I see his numbers. I'm done pissing about this. I don't think it will continue but who knows.

On Carlos Hernandez, that guy had more potential than any starter we had in our system in 2001-2002. His arm injury and the Astros attempts to make him rehad and not have surgery right away ruined his career.

Jordan Lyles on the bump tonight for the Hooks.

Clemens had a good night at the plate yesterday.

Our top arm from the far east Chia Jen Lo threw 2 scoreless last night.
mazag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Chia will be in the bigs next season. Clemens, Gaston, Steele, Bogusevic, and Delomme will all be at spring training to battle it out.
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Lets see how Gaston and Steele perform this year. They played last year in the launching pad so their stats don't project as well as you would hope. They are also both struggling big time up to this point in the season. I'll agree that Bogusevic and Delome get a shot, but Bogusevic is gonna have to sink or swim pretty quick.
jamar
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yeah Gaston and Steele have terrible numbers thus far- they are likely at least several years away.

I like DeLome though.
mazag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yeah both Gaston and Steele are under-performing. Gaston doesn't have a single extra base hit, and Steele isn't getting on base nearly half as much as he should with his speed and control at the plate. I'm hoping they get the hang of it and figure it out. We dont need them to be world beaters, just enough to compete for an open left field spot in the next two years.
