I've been waiting until the all-star break to start a thread about it
they only have to finish 34-51 to get to .500... but it is the pirates and its been like 83 years since that has happened

I was in Pittsburgh this week, everyone I talked to about the Pirates is expecting a collapse.
As a Pirates fan I can't help but prepare for the collapse. But this year seems different. No way they will do as well in the 2nd half, but I'd love a winning record.
Bringing up Cole is a move they haven't been able to make the last few years. That should help the rotation immensely. Right now I just gotta be happy and hope they keep winning so long that no matter how awful their collapse is that it won't cost them a winning season.

I really like the pirates this year. With the Astros moving to the AL I'm definitely going to be pulling for the buccos the rest of the way. I think they can hang around this year. They have solid starting pitching with a great bullpen so far. Plus their farm system is really talented and they definitely will have the ability to go get another bat or starter at the deadline if they choose.
the pirates second half schedule is going to be challenging:
14 games vs. the Cardinals
and
9 games vs. the Reds
and
7 tough road games at the Nationals and Rangers
gotta keep taking care of business vs. the hapless Cubs and Brewers. Bucs are 14-7 vs. those 2 clubs and play them 13 more times

They're better this year, but I expect they'll finish 2nd or 3rd in the division still. That being said I will say they'll finish 6 games above .500
ouch, bad series loss to the Cubs this weekend for the Pirates (53-34). Need to get the ship righted in the final 6 games at home before the break: A's & Mets
We are nearing the time of year when the pirate captain moves his eye patch over to his good eye and steers the ship into the rocks. We shall see what happens.

okay, the bucs (56-37) begin the second half 19 games over .500. Only 5-7 in July so far. Tough schedule to open with after the break: 12 of 15 vs. the Reds, Nationals, and Cardinals. Gotta take advantage of the series inbetween vs. the Marlins and afterwards vs. the Rockies

Grilli gives up a 2 run home run tonight to cut the lead to 1, never looked right. With 2 outs he throws a pitch and is in serious pain. Wasn't hardly moving arm at all. Leaves game.

good win tonight. 3-2 so far on their post-ASB 10-game road trip
good first half of the road trip. Need to go 4-1 in the next 5 road games vs. Wash and Miami...then a 5 game series vs. St. Louis....already tabbed as the biggest series in PNC Park history. Hoping the Pirates add a bat before then.
Pirates win 4-2 and Liriano outduels Stasburg. Pretty funny final "double" play to end it, as Neil Walker wasn't within a foot of tagging the runner going to 2nd before throwing to first but the ump gave it to him anyway.

Should be a real pitchers duel though the Cardinals have far better hitting.
Tough Series not to have their security blanket in Grille. Shark tank has looked vulnerable in the last week.

would love 3-2 this series. Dropping 2 to Miami was horrible.
9-2 win in game 1. Doubleheader is tomorrow. Split that and the Pirates are looking good in this series.

I've got tickets for the 2nd game of their series with the Rangers.
Don't know about the Rangers at that point (though tonight they may have awakened) but the Pirates should be good to watch. GF is really impressed with McCutcheon.

I would love to see the Pirates take the division now that the Astros are in the AL.
Lived in Pittsburgh for a year and really enjoyed catching some games at PNC Park, I've adopted them as my NL team and glad to see them staying strong (so far) this season
