3 games would be fine.

a 1 game playoff should be reserved to tiebreaker scenarios like yesterday after an entire season of play. a 1 game WC playoff is dumb.

A 1-game playoff is just very un-baseball like.

I understand the desire to put more emphasis on winning their division (though lets be honest, the 2nd wildcard was designed to try and increase interest), but it seems like manufactured excitement IMO.

Instead of the added wildcard and "1-game playoff", they should have instead given the team with the best record in the league all 5 potential games at home in the ALDS vs the wildcard. It rewards teams to strive for the best record up until the very last day with 5 home games instead of 3, and it punishes the playoff team that didn't win their division by forcing them to play on the road the entire series -- but you still keep the very heard of what baseball is about... a "team" that includes 4-5 members of a pitching rotation getting a shot.

I'm glad to see the Pirates back in the postseason...no jerks that I'm aware of and they've been wandering around in the desert for a long time. Hope Kansas City is next...been nearly 30 years for them.

Best-of-3 WC would work...the '51 NL tiebreaker was best-of-3 (Bobby Thomson won Game 3 with his walk-off HR).

World Series...for all of the justified *****ing about using the All-Star game to determine home field, it's no more arbitrary than alternating between leagues regardless of team record like it was before. At this point, I'd just as soon see everyone play at least one series against every other team and use best record.

Don't see how this really works unless every team just played the same schedule, then there is no need to have a playoff system at all. The fairest way to determine HFA in the WS would be the league that won the interleague contests have the advantage with the All-Star Game only coming into play only if it were even.

On to St. Louis and the NLDS.

I didn't know this. I just assumed it was a 1 game playoff (and I actually watched that Ghosts of Flatbush documentary not too long ago). I even told someone today about that game being a 1 game playoff.

Pirates haven't made the playoffs in 20+ years, and with a chance to clinch the NLDS tomorrow against St. Louis, you'll be able to get into the game for half of face value -- probably around $20.

Great ride this year. Really wanted to move on to the NLCS. 2 games out of 5 going against Wainright is just too tough, especially when Wacha can come on and pitch a gem in an elimination game like he did in game 4.

Hope the Pirates can keep the bulk of their staff and add some more offense.
