I'm not a wash hater, but I can't help but wonder how many games a year his mismanagement of the staff, poor base running and propensity to bunt have cost this team.

Enough to miss the playoff two years in a row

In Grand Rapids last week and I saw someone wearing a Pirates postseason shirt. I laughed my ass off then as well b

If I was a young pirates fan, I'd wear that too. Hell, three years ago I'm sure I would have worn it.

He can play it cool, but since game 6 in St Louis, it's clear he's panicking and freaked the F out when managing playoff/tiebreaker games. Two straight completely irrational pitching moves.

Say you want to move on without wash. Who's out there?

Promote Maddux. See how a guy with a brain manages a game. Hire a new hitting coach and have Maddux bring in some crony who fits his philosophy to take his old spot. I also ****can the base and bench coaches.

I don't know how they'd justify firing wash but assuming they don't next year has to be put up or shut up.

the problem isn't the loss tonight, it's that the team should have never been in the position they were tonight. But they ****ing tanked down the stretch for the second year in a row and then had to pull off a really hot stretch to even get to the "play-in" game for the wildcard "play-in" game. They only seemed to respond after the "players only meeting", so I'm not sure how much credit Wash should get for that late run anyways.

I'd fire him, but I can only imagine the negative press Texas would get for firing a manager that took them to the World Series twice.

I think I would be on board for that.

I'm convinced Ogando has pictures of Washington. The dude should have never come in when he did.

I hear he's related to a pretty good pitcher. Maybe he'd jump on board.

Given the injuries and significant bullpen transition this year, I thought this year was one of Maddux' best jobs ever. Everything else with this team was garbage.

His brother would be fine as our pitching coach.

Also get rid of

Moreland & Murphy

Sign the Cuban Defector first baseman...sign Brian McCann...trade for Giancarlo Stanton...trade for more pitching

At least ours didn't happen 7 years ago with our team and fans still waiting to come out of the stupor. If you can find any fans anymore, that is. Can't find the team on television.

Pick one or the other.

I'll take Stanton, our pitching looks fine.

Someone is going to pry Maddux away soon anyway. It's a miracle it hasnt happened already. I'd ditch Wash in a NY minute. I think a lot of credit has gone to Wash that really lies with Maddux anyway.

This. Without the fantastic job by the pitching staff this team is well below .500.

I think the idea is that Stanton is allegedly available, whereas your suggestion is less likely. At least from articles that have been posted on here many times this year.

He is available. It's a matter of being willing to part with the pieces. One of the reasons I was so upset with the Garza trade. Gave up too much, especially now looking back. Number of guys we could have used as pieces in a deal for Stanton.

Moreland has got to go. We need a true power hitting first baseman. Not an inconsistent, at best AAA player. Maddux is a great coach and our pitching has been outstanding given the circumstances. I think Wash is there solely as a players coach to keep them fired up and playing hard. If any coach needs to be fired, it's Magadan. Hitting became HORRENDOUS in September.
DannyDuberstein

That's a point to consider when evaluating Wash. This was basically a .500 team against everyone but a AAA team that would have finished 4th in the Pacific Coast League. The Astros are the only reason we had baseball to watch tonight. Well, the Astros and Mike Maddux.

Not surprised. Would have been shocked if they fired him, but I still think handing the keys to Maddux would be the smarter move.

Maddux has had more than 1 chance to leave, already.

He had the chance to be hired two years ago with the Cubs, but instead chose to remain with Texas. He has two daughters who were in school, and between being with close to them and the added time required to build the Cubs and learn the new players, felt he had a great gig for his family.

I admire a man who has an opportunity to take the next step, and chooses his family, instead. Our boys go to a private school and the baseball coach was coaching at the collegiate level. His testimony is that his daughter (who was 5) wanted to spend more time with him, so instead of staying at the university, with eyes on becoming a minor league coach... he answered the call to coach at the HS level. He said, at the collegiate level baseball is year round, with recruiting and off-season training... that he always had to try to get the best players and then have them play their best. Whereas, in HS... he gets the players that show up... recruits from within the students... and focuses on improving them. He isn't graded each season on Wins\Losses as much as other things.

Maddux will leave at some point... hopefully not for 2-3 more years.

I'm aware of the decisions he's made in the past, but I also realize that (1) that's rare and (2) guys like him still eventually answer the phone. I just don't want to see the organization sitting here in a year or two with no title, no Maddux, but with Wash. The Cubs have also been a dumpster fire and just fired Sveum, so while I'm sure his family had a role in the decision, I also think reading the dumpster fire tea leaves played a role too. I think he got a look under the hood and didn't like what he saw for the next few years. The next opportunity may not be quite the dumpster fire.

The Rangers were also 15-4 against the Angels.

The final 7 games of the season came against the right opponents to make a run.
