--I wouldn't even think of resigning Nellie because now that he's not cheating, you have no clue what you're getting

--If not Cano, then it's a must to go after two 15-20M bats.

--Pitching should be good enough unless they can package Kinsler and Profar (only if they sign Cano) to get a nice starter.

Gotta replace first base (mitch can not get it done), DH, pick up an outfielder, and at least 2 outta these 3 need to be able to hit with power, possibly pick up another spot at the end of the rotation (behind darvish, harrison, holland, perez).

The bullpen should still be set well (I move ogando back because there is no way you go for try number 3 with him in the rotation)

I'm growing as impatient as everyone about Moreland, who finished at 14th in the AL for BA among qualifed 1B.

.232\23 HRs
.238\20 HRs <- That is Smoak, who had just 8 less ABs

We've openly mocked Smoak as failed. However, we own Moreland for about 4 more years.

Needs that are open: LF, C, DH and SP.
Needs that are upgradeable: 1B, 2B, and RP.

Assets under control worth upgrading or trading:

Kinsler (2B): $16M in 2014 <- expensive
Moreland (1B): Arb1 in 2014 <- low cost serviceable.
Gentry (LF): Arb1 in 2014 <- low cost serviceable.
Feliz (P): Arb2 in 2014 <- injury recovery, so may not have much value
Tepesch (SP): Serf in 2014 <- low cost serviceable.

I think we are sitting at about $87M commitments in 2014... with about $15M in Serf and Arb costs that will come.

We absolutely need two bats (OF and DH\1B) and a Catcher.

Ogando has been a HUGE success as a SP.

2011: 29GS \ 169 IP \ 3.51\1.14
2012: BP
2013: 18GS \ 104.1 IP \ 3.11 \1.23

His transition in 2012 to the BP was facilitated because in ST, Wash was adamant that JD get him a shutdown guy like Ogando or he was moving Ogando back.

JD couldn't find anyone, so Ogando was transitioned.

He had some arm fatigue this season, but I suspect he'll be fine for 2014, unless the Rangers know:
- Harrison is ready
and
- They sign anther SP like Kuroda.

Darvish\Holland\Perez <- About as much confidence as I could hope for in a Top 3.
- Harrison: Won't give you 200IP in 2014.
- Tepesch: Might be a #5 in 2014, but I don't want him to be the entry point for our #5... especially if we are rolling with a projected Harrison.

Ogando is our #4...

Well one change is Gina Miller has been put out to pasture. Time to get younger at that position. Kaime ready to move into that role?

While I agree with what Ogando has done when he does start, he just has shown nothing that says he can make it through a full season.

Move Profar to 2nd, move Kinsler to OF, put that new Cuban kid at 1st. Replace Cruz with a big bat.

Why not Lewis in that 5th spot?

Ian has not been very obliging about moving to the outfield. Maybe he thinks the team is better off with him at second. May have to trade him.

I think that was the conventional wisdom. I think there is merit there, however, Kinsler, IMO, has more value as a 2B, on the market. At his salary, you can justify the cost, but not as an OF. That was the deal with Soriano. I could see moving Kinsler to 3B, and moving Beltre to DH, as having more upside.

Inserting Profar... or trading one of Profar\Kinsler\Andrus, IMO has the most upside.

That has certainly been on tons of radars, but not lately... I've gotta remember to keep that in mind.

Lewis is a FA. He is certainly one I could see the Rangers resigning. Even if a charity event, like 2013 was. Throwing out the 1st pitch last night was a nice addition. Keep in mind, not only did he have arm surgery... they went ahead and did his hip, as well. I don't see him being much of a contributor in 2014. He and Harrison are huge unknowns to us fans.

I think originally he was... then reality set in. Like MYoung, he may ultimately move... but I suspect maybe not. Maybe we can trade him to LAAA so he can reunite with Hamilton. Kinsler does really well when he plays within his ability and plays what is given to him. When he tries to play hero he pops the ball up and frustrates the fans, the team and himself. Him getting picked off last night adds to a long list of reasons Rangers fans are souring on him. They soon won't be able to trade him. They need to do it soon after Cano signs with the Rangers. Maybe to NYY or Philly. Maybe we could sign Cano and put Profar at SS with Cano and trade Andrus+Kinsler to NYY.

Emily Jones and Gina Miller, two of DFW's leading TV sportscasters, are leaving their current gigs. Both hope to return to television before too long.

Jones, perhaps best known for her work as Fox Sports Southwest's Rangers reporter, is leaving the cable network at the end of October.

"I need to find more of a middle ground between the kids and what Fox requires," Jones said Tuesday morning after working the final game of the Rangers season Monday night. "Fox requires a significant time commitment."

Jones and her husband Mike McCoy, are the parents of Henry, 2, and Hattie, three months.

Jones has worked at FSSW for nine years. She did not rule out a return to on-air work.

"I don't believe I am done," she said.

First off im watching the Cano negotiations, if Cano leaves the Yankees (I dont think he will). I offer up Kinsler to fill their hole at aecond. If Cano does stay I offer up Profar and Holland for Cargo. The Rockies have finished last 2 yrs in a row with him, they may look to try something different. Of course they have to be confident Harrison will be ready to make this deal. Then at first I make a run for Abreu the Cuban first baseman. DH I try to lure Napoli back and he can help behind the plate and at 1st. Probably my biggest head scratcher would be Nathan... 2 more years or let Scheppers move into closer role.... This one could wreck a great bullpen if decision doesnt work out!!!!!

Speaking of changes, what are the odds that Monday night was the last time we see Nolan sitting in those front row seats as a part of ownership and the front office?

James Loney (30)
Kendrys Morales (30)
Justin Morneau (33)
Mike Morse (32)
Lyle Overbay (37)
Carlos Pena (36)
Mark Reynolds (30)
Kevin Youkilis (35)

I'll break it up for you...

Abreu
.
.
.
.
A who lot of old guys who will likely look for 3+ yr deals.

And a whole bunch of average hitters in their prime.

A whole lotta nothing.

Konerko, Youkilis, Reynolds, Morneau, Napoli... Other than the hopeful potential of Abreu... there really isn't anything at 1B. And then you start to look at DH:
quote:

Lance Berkman (37) - $12MM club option with a $1MM buyout
Jason Giambi (43)
Travis Hafner (37)
Raul Ibanez (42)
Kendrys Morales (30)
Luke Scott (36)
Delmon Young (28)
Michael Young (37)

IMO, it might be the best route to look at Kinsler to DH, and try adding Cano. $10M+ on any of those on the lists above point towards results like Berkman's.

Promotion?!

Chris McGuiness was our AAA 1B. .246\11HR. And 25. I believe they exposed him to Rule V last year. He was picked up, and returned.

Rule V might be worth picking over, ourselves.

One thing to consider about Cano is the ballpark that he's been playing in. Yankee stadium boosts power numbers for left handed hitters way more so than the Ballpark. Cano and Granderson both have inflated numbers because of this.

Yeah, this ship is JD's, no question. Will be very interested to see the replacement.

Dave Anderson's sucked balls for as long as I can remember. Had to coach 1st because he sucked too bad at 3rd, and someone was going to take the fall for this team having too many braindead moments on the basepaths.

And Wash looks like a complete idiot for publicly saying he'd bring his entire staff back.

BMX if you're going to refute my point, at least research back further than 1 year. Before the new Yankee stadium opened Cano hit 31 total home runs at home and 31 on the road. He has hit 79 at home since the stadium opened compared to 63 on the road. The Yankees as a team have hit 1.25% more home runs at home (586 to 470) since the stadium opened. The rest of Major League Baseball hit 1.02% (11,466/11,280) more home runs at home during those years.

If Abreu can't be had, I would not mind Corey Hart. Shouldn't cost a ton and has been very consistent. Will help out against LHP as well.

As for DH...Kendrys I guess...not any real good options there.
