According to The Nielsen Co., baseball blasted football by more than a 4-1 rate. Game 5 of the World Series, on KTVI (Channel 2), was seen in 43.8 percent of homes in the area with a TV. The “MNF’’ telecast, which was on ESPN and KPLR (Channel 11) drew a combined 10.9 rating.
On the big stage, Fox’s telecast of the ballgame beat ESPN’s football telecast by a significant margin nationally. Nielsen says baseball was seen in 8.9 percent of the nation’s homes with a TV and attracted 14.4 million viewers, while football pulled a 6.7 rating and 10.8 million viewers.
And in the head-to-head matchup between the cities competing, St. Louis has beaten Boston in the ratings for every contest other than the opener. The number for St. Louis now stands at 41.7, the rating in Boston is 36.5.
