Rangers would have to find a taker for Rios and either Holland or Ogando according to Evan.
I haven't seen\heard that. Rios is on for $13M in 2014. A club option for 2015 ($13.5M; 1M buyout).
Ogando begins Arb years for 1st of 3.
Holland is owed $5.4M ('14), $7.4M, $10M ('16) with options for $11M and $11.5M for '17 and '18.
Some believe the signing of Choo was an indication they go beyond the prescribed $125M (flat from 2013). It will certainly impact long-term if they backload.
Having said that... if they do sign Tanaka... that will likely facilitate a trade, which may or may not have to do with payroll. As mentioned many times...
Darvish-Holland-Perez are a solid 3 for the next 3 (opt-out in '17), 4 (club options) and 5+ years. Then you have Harrison, Ogando, Tepesch, Ross (stretched out this winter), Scheppers (stretched out this winter), and Luke Jackson (22-AA). Tanaka would either put Ogando in the BP, or send him out on a trade. Ross will likely be in the BP in 2014, but I don't see him being there in 2015. Size is his issue. I don't know if Tepesch is as near a mainstay in the Rangers rotation, but would likely be interesting to a Tampa, Oakland, etc. Scheppers is behind Feliz and Soria for the Closer role, and he has always been a question mark as a SP (durability). Luke may be 2015. So, while you can stake AAA-RR with a rotation of Tepesch, Ross, Scheppers and Jackson... all 4 would seem to be in a MLB rotation in 2015. Of course, I'm the optimist homer.
Token - You have a better feel if Cashman will bust the bank and go over the $189M. If A-Rod plays in 2014, I don't see how they stay under. $177M for 15 signed players, already (per COTs). At league minimum those 10 players are $5M.
TMACEvery indication I've seen is $100M. Darvish was at $110M comined with posting. At $100M+posting... $120M, however because you have so many teams able to post-to-play... it will drive it much higher. Loser sign Garza, Santana or Burnett.

Dofferent world now with the new money. Also completely different negotiating with all teams versus just one.
Agreed. He is a big arm who doesn't cost draft picks or prospects to obtain. Likely has 1 year of transition, but should be serviceable in 2014.
Probably close to $20M/yr, regardless of years. It will likely come down to playing for a contender... playing in an environment he can adjust to... oh and the number of years. Starting at 5yr... a team will stretch to 6, which will take out some teams. Then, he'll likely get 7 years, which will narrow it to 2-3 teams.
