I'm a really big fan of Joe Charboneau.

Anyone who can get stabbed at a exhibition game in Mexico, recover to win Rookie of the Year, start the next season off hitting .208, end his career by injuring his back sliding, open beer bottles with his eye socket, do his own dental work, and turn it all into a career as the head coach of North Ridge Ohio's parks and rec department baseball team gets my approval.

While Zimmerman falls under the "flash in the pan" definition, he basically just never recovered from Tommy John surgery.

Rick Ankiel pitching. That 2000 regular season, he was something else. At 20 years old no less.

Luke Scott

He's had some very solid seasons, so he may not fit as a "flash in the pan" player. But he has definitely fallen off from his 2-3 year run of solid production

My two "weird" favorites have always been Brandon Backe and Wandy Rodriguez.

Backe definitely defines "flash in the pan", but Wandy made himself a pretty good career.

Morgan Ensberg with the Astros. I got an autograph from him at a Round Rock Express (AA at the time) game. Looked like that signature was going to be worth quite a bit during his 2005 season when he hit 36 homers with 101 RBIs. The flameout was spectacular though.

Jim Abbott, the one handed pitcher. It was really strange to see him move to the NL and have to bat.

Mike Greenwell for me. Jim Abbott had a decent career, I thought.

The quickest flash in the pan of all...

Alan Zinter, the penultimate AAAA player, finally gets his cup of coffee, and hits a homer in his first major league at bat (13 years after he was drafted 24th overall by the Mets) for the Astros in 2002. I remember watching that game, that was really cool for him.
