Does anyone not like Jeter? Or eat least...respect? Do the biggest Sawks fans still think, "Hey, I hate the MFY, but that Jeter guy ain't too bad."

Favorite baseball player. Going to miss watching him play.

Chip, my brother-in-law is a die hard Red Sox fan. Born and raised in the New England area and Jeter is one of his favorite players.

So ARod gets to spend a whole season taking grounders at SS to get ready.

the Astros/Crane are happy. The farewell tour begins at MMP. The yanks only trip to Houston this season

Would like to see him stay healthy all year and make another run at 200 hits.

Glad he doesn't have to spend another year playing with Arod

May finish 6th all time in hits. Would love to see him go out with a bang and finish 5th:

1. Pete Rose (24) 4256 B
2. Ty Cobb+ (24) 4189 L
3. Hank Aaron+ (23) 3771 R
4. Stan Musial+ (22) 3630 L
5. Tris Speaker+ (22) 3514 L
6. Cap Anson+ (27) 3435 R
7. Honus Wagner+ (21) 3420 R
8. Carl Yastrzemski+ (23) 3419 L
9. Paul Molitor+ (21) 3319 R
10. Derek Jeter (19, 39) 3316 R

So impressive.

Yep. Going out while Aroid isn't around, and he is leaving before the Yankees have to deal with that mess again.

Perfect scenario. If he was thinking about more than 1 year, the Arod suspension and situation definitely made sure that this would be his last.

Great player, iconic leader of the league's most iconic team.

I looked into this one day and cannot remember exactly (I'll look it up later), but I believe Jeter is only one of three players ever (Rose, Cobb) to have a 200 hit season after the season he collected hits 3000.

I think that's kind of cool.

He will get a thunderous standing ovation every game in Fenway. You will see signs everywhere thanking him for the years.

I hope to get tickets so I can wish him well. I will definately go see him in Baltimore (now that I live here and can get a seat without a second mortgage).

Count me as being one who is, at best, indifferent to Jeter.

i've appreciated his greatness more and more each year. for he first decade of his career, he seemed to be overshadowed by arod and nomar, and for me, just was an above average short stop on some amazing yankee teams. once arod join the yanks, I started to see how truly great jeter was. first class in every possible way on and off the field.

and this

Frankly speaking, I believe he was extremely fortunate to be a Yankee from start to finish. To reclaim and rephrase a figure of speech, he was born on second base. I don't believe he gets to 3000 hits, among his other lofty stats, if he's not in pinstripes. This goes for ASG appearances, Gold Gloves, and certainly postseason opportunities. But he did, so good for him.

Astros dropped the ball in that draft. Missed out on greatness.

From 97-03, nomar finished higher than jeter for mvp in every year but 1999 (jeter was 6th to nomar 7th) and 2001 (nomar played 21 games that season. Nomar had two AL batting titles in 99 and 00, so yea, I'd say over that 6 year period, jeter was overshadowed by nomar for some of it.

97 - Nomar 1st in WAR; Jeter 5th

98 - Nomar 2nd in WAR; Jeter 3rd

99 - Nomar 2nd in WAR; Jeter 1st

00 - Nomar 2nd in WAR; Jeter 4th

I'm pretty indifferent to him overall, but that cutoff/ relay play against Oakland is one of my favorite baseball plays of all time.

I think he's probably a top 5 player in Yankees history behind Ruth, DiMaggio, Mantle, and Gehrig.

If Jeter comes up with KC or San Diego he becomes a solid player with an All Star season here and there.

If Jeter comes up with KC, he is traded to Yankees by age 25
