Is there a significant movement against the Fighting Irish/Celtics? Does it really bother you?

If not, you're being disengenious at best.

I actually have a strong Irish heritage and am quite proud of it. Much like many Indian tribes in America has shown support for the Indian mascot. It's the people who honestly shouldn't have any say in the matter making it an issue

Everyone has a say, you just don't have to listen to it. There are plenty of American Indians who are disgusted by that caricature and I would say that is the norm.

Complete assumption. And to counter your "everyone has a say" why is it the people who like it or don't mind it get completely ignored or treated like their opinion doesn't matter?

I agree that logically, the Fighting Irish/ Celtics comparison is fair and it's an argument I used for a long time. However, things changed for me when I started to travel around the Navajo Nation area. I had no idea that there were still areas and factions of Americans Indians that were so segregated and I'm not sure I've seen worse living conditions in some cases. In that regard, I don't think the Irish comparison holds up. The Irish were definitely discriminated against for a long time in this country, but they're not still fighting for equality like American Indians are in lots of cases.

I don't know if they should have to change the logo, but I do think they probably should. I think there are American Indians who look at it and see it in exactly the same light as the picture Redags posted earlier. You can only do so much to accommodate someone who's getting offended, but "because this has always been our logo" isn't exactly a great reason to keep something that's offensive either.

Because there is no reasonable argument to say doing away with the logo is offensive to them.

Then it's a double standard?

They do matter, but I'm sure there are other logos that some marketing guy would come up with that they may like, too. In that sense, the concern is more about some threshold "number" (whatever that "number" may be) of people who are offended being too much to keep the logo, even if a lot of people like it.

I'm not offended when I see black face. I'm not black. I'm not offended when I see Lucky the Leprechaun in Boston. I'm not Irish. I'm not offended when I see Chief Wahoo. I'm not American Indian.

However, I recognize people in those communities may be offended and I believe they have the right to be offended if they want to be offended. (One caveat- yes, I do think there is a limit where you just have to say "grow thicker skin" but I can understand being offended by Chief Wahoo) I would rather see the logo changed than for a segment of our population to be offended. So, when the question is asked as it was here, I'll chime in because I do have an interest in the issue in that respect.

In the case of other American Indian mascots, sometimes the tribes have given their support, and by all means, those teams should keep their mascots. (Seems like Florida State gets support from the Seminoles? Maybe I'm wrong.)

If the Irish community wants to make a stink about Lucky the Leprechaun, then perhaps I'd answer the same way. But I don't hear much about it nor does the question get asked very often, if at all.

Edit- And to be clear and reiterate something, I'm not saying they should get rid of it. Obviously there are differing takes on the American Indian community's opinion.

Edit Edit- I think the "C" logo they wear a lot looks pretty slick.

Because the VAST majority of responses to this are of the faux outrage variety driven by ********s like Bob Costas. That's why the 'when' matters.

Anyway, carry on with your usual shtick.

How much of the support for the logo is of the faux support variety so "********s like Bob Costas" don't get their way?

If Bobby Sue wants XXXX team to change their XXXX logo that you personally kind of like, you going to be as adamant about it?
