He's a super competitive and fiery guy, one of the most that I've in the past decade in baseball. I'd expect him to say he wants the Rangers, and everyone else to lose. I don't really feel upset at his comments, his passion was both visible and a great asset for years in Texas.

Also, no question the way the trade was communicated was bad. For a cornerstone piece of the organization to be dealt like that is regrettable.

I think his comment about how the Rangers wanted him to be a leader is pretty telling though.

Add him to the list of former players that Dallas fans will skewer on this board.

They were skewering him while he was here. There was a major echo chamber in regards to public opinion on Ian.

Thought it was pretty telling how he said he should've been only focusing on baseball instead of being a leader to younger guys in the clubhouse. Seems like he shied away from that role. Not saying it's right or wrong since some guys just don't want that job, just interesting as I had heard he was a strong voice in the club.

He publicly called the Rangers general manager a "sleazeball".

He deserves all the skewering coming his way.

And I hope he pops up 81 times and makes 81 outs on the bases.

Shows the character difference between MY and Kinlser. MY accepted his leadership role and changed positions for the team. When Daniels wanted Kinsler to do the same thing he refused. Some want to do whats absolutely best for the team and others don't its just natural

A super competitive guy doesn't fall asleep on the basepaths as much as he did. A super competitive guy doesn't pop up as frequently as he did, when a line drive was all that was necessary to win. A super competitive guy doesn't shy away from being a leader.

Typical Houston fan. Kinz checked played a key role for several years in Arlington. He has been very popular... however, he rubbed many fans wrong. He was a frustrating player to watch. For every great sliding grab he made in RF and play to 1st that he made... you could see him make an equally awful play watching the ball hop between the wickets.

For every walk-off HR or walk-off base hit he contributed for a win... he was the last man standing at the plate in a loss.

Enjoyed watching him, but very frustrating.

CJ Wilson, Hamilton and Kinz all left with harsh words for their former team\fans... all went on to do little so far. We'll see about 2014.

Napoli, MYoung, Bengie Molina and MANY others have gone on and welcomed back. Murphy and Baker and others will be welcomed.

HTH.

He didn't want to be a leader despite knowing a) that he was the most tenured Ranger and b) that there was a definite void of leadership in the club. That, and his numbers haven't exactly been stellar.

And about the only area in which he seems to have been a "cornerstone" is in jersey sales.

If he was blocking one of the top prospects in baseball, you can bet I would've traded him too.

Kinsler came out of this with so much egg on his face.

That may be true about the competitive and fierce nature, but a little too simplistic to say these comments are just that he hopes everyone else loses. These are VERY direct comments with a very specific message attached to them. To try to spin them any other way is misguided IMO.

He was asked about the trade, and much like his time with the Rangers he swung for the fences, popping it up in the process

I loved Kins when he first came up to the big club. He played with a fire and passion that nobody else did on the Rangers at that time. Somewhere around their first world series appearance, he seemed to loose that passion for playing. I always figured it was because the Rangers let My and Hamilton go and it just pissed him off. In any case, he wasn't the same player the past couple of years. I could see this trade lighting that fire under his ass again, especially when he plays the Rangers.

In any case, Kinsler has always been kind of a *****. He was our *****, so we let it slide and just chalked it up to his competitive nature. I'll miss the early 2000's Ian but the guy that was just showing up for his job the last couple of years doesn't get much sympathy from me.

Much like CJ Wilson, he's not a real likeable guy and something of a malcontent. Showing his true colors now.

He was making 15 mil per year. People making that much should be stepping up in a leadership role.

Kinz was being paid a premium, everyone knew that.

At $15M for 2014... he'd be 2nd in salary. He didn't want to be a leader? Shouldn't have gone for the big money.

Not everyone is a leader. The leader doesn't need to be the older player or star. People can lead or they can't. Putting someone uncomfortable with that in the position is going to be a failure.

But he sounds like a little b to say that they asked too much of him in that regard. Not very smart to say publicly that you don't care to be a leader and want to solely focus on your own game.

What would people's reactions be to Josh or C.J. making this exact statement?

He's a selfish beech. He'll also crash and burn because the only place he's ever hit well at is the Ballpark. Career difference of 60 points in his batting avg home vs road, and nearly 200 OPS difference. In Comerica, he's a career .200 hitter with a 270 point OPS diff.
