23 Hits in 29.0 IP, with 7 BBs is of little concern, IMO, when only 4 are for extra bases. He picked off 3 and has given 0 SBs. Getting bases on him is a chore.


Game4 he gave up 3H and a BB. A double and two singles.
Game3 he gave up 5H and 3 BB. All singles
Game2 he gave up 8H and 3 BB. One double. Four singles
Game1 he gave up 7H and 0 BB. Two doubles 5 singles.

I think a better argument might be... he got rocked @Boston, and was able to stiffle ChiSox, Houston and Philly.


Now, he has 9 GiDP, so that has helped him get deep into games. The next person is at 4... there are 5 of them. His G/F is 6th inthe AL - 1.36.

I've followed him for many years and the comparisons are always Johan Santana, another Venezuelan. I like the person story as well. He grew up emulating Santana. The Rangers signed him in the offseason to a long-term contract, and in the contract they made provision for him to get his family out of Venezuela.

Too early to give him two Cy Youngs (ala Santana), but he is well positioned to be in consideration for many years.

Dallas, don't get me wrong, I love what Perez is doing. I'm surprised his WHIP is that low. I think the double play ball is really what had me concerned without really looking at the numbers.

Yeah... seems he constantly has someone on base, and the GiDP have certainly helped.

The fact he is a ground ball pitcher means he must have good defense behind him, and will likely give up hits. As long as they stay on the ground, he won't give up the big ball.

What has done Scheppers in... is the 4 HRs and 8 BB in 4 games. 13 Doubles and 9 SB doesn't help either. You are essentially having people in scoring position almost all the time.

Presumably Nick Martinez will get the nod Monday. He'll be pitcher #13 on the 25. Scott Baker has done well, but the Rangers don't have a spot on the 40, which is likely why he didn't get the start Monday.

I'm not sure the terms the Rangers made for Noesi... but if it includes a guy on the 40... now would be a good time to move him.
