The more I think about it, the more I want Jackson on the Astros. We haven't drafted a serious power bat with this much upside in a long time. And since he won't be playing catcher, it's good that we are in the AL and can utilize him as a DH if need be.

Too many risks with pitchers. Too many chances for greatness to come from lower rounds with pitchers. Go with the bat.

I don't see any A&M players or recruits going in today's 74 picks. I think we will start to see Mengden and few recruits in the early rounds (3-5) of tomorrow's draft.

Aiken was the expected choice. Rodon's senior year seemed to have been a little less than what people wanted to see.

I mean. He ended up with an ERA of 2.01. I think he got off to a slow start but he was pretty damn good overall. I think the number of innings he has thrown the past two years is the ultimate concern that prevented him from going #1.

His innings and pitch counts are worrisome. Too many guys with that track record in college have looked at TJ in the first couple years in the minors. He may be fine, but his workload concerns some enough that most expected Houston to take one of the blue chip HSers when conventional wisdom had been Rodon for the past year.

There was a doc on 610 talking about this specifically...overworked college pitchers and the increasing trend of TJ surgery being much more likely with college workhorses than HS prospects.

after Appel's early struggles, I don't think the astros wanted another high mileage college pitcher. And Rodon definitely qualifies as high mileage

Rated as the 31st prospect in the draft by BA and we picked him up at pick #37.

Not sure on when they can start negotiations/sign.

The head scrather on Fisher is he just doesn't have the eye popping numbers you'd expect from a top 30-ish player. Apparently he did better at the Cape Cod league so maybe he just projects better than he is right now.

No, he isn't related to Homer.
His dad and uncle both played college ball. His uncle was drafted in the 12th round but I don't believe he pursued pro ball due to arm issues.

By what he's put on twitter, it sounds like Jarvis won't make it to campus. He changed his information to being a member of the ChiSox organization.
