Compunding injury issues with stupidity is no solution.

Darvish being on the DL has nothing to do with a team not putting in a claim.

No one put in a claim because they are revocable waivers and they knew Darvish wasn't going anywhere. Happens all the time this time of year.

I guess after the trade deadline you have to put the player on waivers and negotiate with whoever the first team is to make the claim? No negotiation beforehand?

Carp pops up to go 0-5 in the 3 hole, and robertson pulls back on a suicide squeez. Clownball in full effect.

Carp hit .296 in 2013.

The problem with Carp isn't that he is batting 3rd. It is that he isn't very good this season.

In Boston, he had 86 ABS where he had 18 ABs in the 4th hole, 39 ABs in the 5th hole.

It is easy to complain about the results. But, I don't think anyone was all that upset with Kouz.

We are at a point in the season where we are auditioning for 2015.

If Wash wants to put a guy like Carp in the 3 hole hoping he'll get a bit better selection, to see what he can do... fine with me.

If you want to complain about Wash... find something more substantive, or just do like others and say, "I don't like Wash... I never will, even if Nellie hadn't cost him winning the WS."

Washington is the perfect coach for this type of team right now -- a team that needs to lose as many games as they can to secure #1 overall pick.

Find something more substantitve than a guy who has never hit 3rd in his career, is having a terrible year, and choosing to hit him 3rd? How about clownball where his team doesn't execute? Botched suicide squeeze possibly cost them the game - knowing not to pull your bat back on a suicide squeeze is as basic as it gets. His team runs into outs on the bases like nobody's business. His team has a stranglehold on caught stealing - with Elvis leading the league while Rios and Martin are tied for 2nd. It's been 60 years since one MLB team had the top 3 players in caught stealing.

+ 1000 to the above post. There is really no defending Wash at this point. He has always had many of his weaknesses, it's just people were able to overlook them bc he is a "players manager" and the team did well. But his problems were evident. These problems are compounded when you don't have more talent than the other teams that helps hide the problems.

For the record, I'm resigned to the expectation that he'll get a pass for this year. And I don't personally dislike the guy even though I will mock the fact he decided snorting some lines over the ASB was not a bad idea. And the pitching staff has been gutted, so I can understand this year being pretty lousy. I just see a lot of extra slop on top of the injuries that I think has led to what should have been a pretty bad year being historically bad. And that follows two late season crash and burns for which there is no excuse.

You may think my issue with Carp is frivolous, but it's one of many little issues that pile up and lead to slop. I think it undermines his credibility with the team when he does stuff like this - you're asking for their best while at the same time not putting them in the best position to succeed.

Complaining about Carb is like complaining the captain of the Titanic left the water running in the sink.

I'm not defending Wash as the greatest manager... I'm not claiming Wash is a "great" manager. I just think people who incessantly complain about him, must not watch other teams. EVERYTHING I hear being complained about Wash, I see other managers do.

Missing bunts\squeezes... CS, Ks... Errors. It is WIDELY accepted that terrible pitching leads to more Es as players get back on their heels. It is not a surprise that Texas has a huge number of walks, mixed with a turnstyle of minor league and released players, that teaching\emphasizing defense in the middle of August, will do very little.

Struggling to score runs... yes, Texas this year has probably tried to run more, in order to move runners.

He is 98th All-Time in Wins, with 659.

Actives ahead of him:
Wash: 659 Ws - 601 Ws (.523)
Joe Girardi: 705-552 \ .561
Terry Collins: 728-763\ .488
Joe Madden: 765-708 \ .519
Bob Melvin: 804-745 \ .519
Ned Yost: 811-886 \ .478
Clint Hurdle: 843-928 \ .476
Ron Gardenhire: 1053-1016 \ .509
Terry Francona: 1184-1046 \ .531
Buck Showalter: 1235-1147 \ .518 <- Former Ranger. Was it he or Oats who was absolutely strictly by the stats?
Mike Scioscia: 1307-1085 \ .546
Bruce Bochy: 1595-1589 \ .501

Anyone who criticizes Wash, must absolutely despise Scioscia. I've sat and watched people cry about something Wash did in a game against LAAAA, and watch Scioscia do the exact same thing in the game.

Of the 11 managers ahead of him in Ws... 7 have a worse Winning percentage. Scioscia is an exception. Girardi another. You can't argue that Wash has had more talent than Joe (or even Scioscia for that matter, although LAAA is loaded with expensive former Rangers). Francona has been run out of Philly and Boston, despite 2 WS rings, and at least with Boston... incredibly talented and expensive teams.

This is baseball... where failure less than 75% of the team is celebrated.

If he goes 15-21 the rest of the way, and he keeps his job for 2015 and then goes 80-82... He'll have 95 Ws-103Ls. Totals would be: 754-704 (.517) and be 81st in Ws.

There are 26 Managers with more Wins than Wash... that are below .500.

There are FAR more players that sucked before coming to Texas, did well and then sucked when they left, than those that were awesome, came and sucked, and then were awesome after leaving.

I agree... but who do you like?

162 games without much behind the scenes information and I pretty much disagree with almost every manager a number of times per game.

But I don't cry about it.

Cin: .292 \ 19 HRs \ 3 SBs(1 season)
Tex: .305 \ 142 HRs \ 40 SBs (5yrs = 28.4 HR/yr)
LAA: .256 \ 29 HRs \ 7 SBs (2yrs = 14.5 HR/yr)

2012: .285\43 HRs \ 7 SB.

If by suck you mean batting .285 with 43 HRs, then yes... he sucked.

HTH.

Hamilton put up a 922 OPS in 90 games in Cincy.

Hamilton put up a 912 OPS in his 5 years in Texas.

While it was a somewhat small sample size in Cincy (though 90 games is a pretty good #), Hamilton far from "sucked" before coming to Texas.

By suck I mean he went .245/.322/.487 in his final 100 games. It's not like he was superman until he left and then fell apart. He was already suffering from a ****ty approach and mounting injuries. Using him as a sole example to support this assertion:
quote:

was a joke. It wasn't a response to the claim and it didn't even support it either.
DallasAg 94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ok, so narrowing 2527 ABs down to the last 100 will reflect his time better in Texas, than the summary of his work. 4%.

4% of his time in LAAA is about 15 ABs.

He went:
0/4
0/4
1/4
0/4
so - by the same argument, he started LAAA at 1/16, which is .063. So the argument still fits.

Yes, it WAS a joke, but it did support the argument.

mhayden

OPS is certainly one measure. There were plenty of people who believed Cincy sold high and got the better of that trade.

I'm just replying to your own statement that Josh Hamilton was one of the long list of players that sucked before they were placed under Ron Washington's tutelage, then thrived, then sucked after they left.

Hamilton was a stud in his 90 games in Cincy, and he was a stud in Texas... So he certainly doesn't fall under that.

So, who else is on this long list?

Uehara?

Oh, wait.

And Hamilton was awful for the last 4 months of 2012. Don't kid yourself, Dallas. He is a prime culprit as to why that went from a team that should have at least been playing in a division series to instead having a one game post-season.

Gimenez traded to CLE for "future considerations," for anyone still following the Rangers.

Yan Gomes got a concussion, Gimenez will be added to the CLE ML roster.

Good for him. The Rangers sent him down. He could have refused, but chose to stay with them. Looks like it paid off and the Rangers found a place for him to be on a ML roster.

You look at the guy's career... and at 31, he is still trying to make a go of it as a player... but man, he has put in some miles. Signed in June of 2004. 4 different MLB teams. 9 MiLB teams.
