I think this season is a very much a cautionary one where you wait and see what you have as far as Darvish, Fielder, Choo, Odor, Profar, etc., so I can understand the lack of bold moves. Plug in gaps with cheap guys, and if those key players rebound and you find yourself in a pennant race, then you get bold during the season. Or if guys start dropping again, at least you kept your powder dry and didn't do any additional damage to your long-term flexibility.

Very solid #3 guy. Would take this from a shaky to a solid rotation.

Deal agreed to in principle pending medical review.

No word on who Texas is sending to Milwaukee.

Just a 2015 deal, but with him being a hometown kid (Fort Worth), I'd say better than normal shot at getting him re-signed if we like how he performs.

On the short term front, it now makes the rotation Darvish / Holland / Gallardo / Lewis / Detwiler... Which isn't going to strike fear throughout the league, but if it stays healthy and Prince/Choo produce like they have shown they are capable of, it is a team that can win the division.

I read somewhere last night they thought Sardinas could be included in the deal.

I like it. I don't value minor league relievers or middle infielders that don't have a stick. I'm higher on Gallardo than most. I think it's a steal.

Really wanted Hamels but I like Gallardo a lot

I have always liked YG. Hated to see Knebel be part of the deal because I think he has something, but have to give to get. Rangers may be worried after his recent elbow issues too

Apparently they got fairly in-depth with talks on Hamels, but the money issue was just too much to overcome.

I'm not particularly fond of YG. I've waited for his wheels to fall off. Let's hope this isn't the year.

I think the move makes sense. He'll solidify the rotation providing a healthy innings eater.

There are tons of uncertainty. Choo. Fielder. Beltre. Andrus. Profar. Colby.

We don't know how to project this season.. So this is a low risk option until we know more.

In an off-season that was loaded with FA SPs, it is disappointing how we've ended up.

The players we lost - I'm indifferent. Sardinas has been an asset and expected to be used as a trade chip. The fact they traded him gives me confidence that Profar may be off to a good start on rehab.

How so? Reality is at this time we're not sure what kind of team we have. If Prince and Choo are broken, this team is not going to have a prayer to win the division over the next few years -- so why would we want to go after a pitcher demanding mega $$$ for 5+ years?

If you sign a Shields or Scherzer for stupid money and Fielder and Choo are still broken then what do you do in a year when it's time to start talking about re-upping Darvish?

This was the perfect move in my opinion. Bonafide #3 starter and innings-eater that can slot in to a playoff rotation adequately if we're good. Has trade value at the deadline or nets a comp pick if he walks if we're bad.

I like the move as well. Like I posted a month ago, this team doesn't know what it is yet until we see what Fielder, Choo, Yu, etc. have this year. What they do know is that they need another starter to eat some innings. This is a move that only cost a couple of spare part minor leaguers to help address that known issue and does nothing to limit future salary flexibility, so it fits right in with the low risk, bargain-hunting strategy.

If this team starts showing it's a contender, then you go close on Hamels or something to that effect if need be. But for now, you've shored up an issue without impacting future flexibility.
