If you sign a Shields or Scherzer for stupid money and Fielder and Choo are still broken then what do you do in a year when it's time to start talking about re-upping Darvish?
This was the perfect move in my opinion. Bonafide #3 starter and innings-eater that can slot in to a playoff rotation adequately if we're good. Has trade value at the deadline or nets a comp pick if he walks if we're bad.
