ESPN Dallas had an article suggesting it could happen with him playing left field and Choo moving to right. My question is who do we give up that Boston will take, and is another hitter really a priority given how much they need a SP or two.

If they said said LuJack and ChiChi for Cespedes...I still say no!!!

Not a fan of Calvin Watkins.

He suggests giving up Choo for Cespedes?!

His writing is worse than some of you guys posting TexAgs. ;-)

No analysis...just innuendo or suggestion...

A trade is a possibility... but the Rangers have a number of guys who can be plugged in the OF. The LAD have a number of OFs they need to move.

But to your point... the Rangers need SP. And, IMO, until they know what the situation is with Darvish's MRI in November... I doubt they do anything, other than CLewis and any other Serf\Arb they have pending. If Darvish is fine and they sign CLewis... They should have 4 SP - Darvish\Holland\Lewis (pick Tep or Martinez).

I'd give CLewis 2yr/$10-15M (Total) with IP incentives. Of course Philly just gave Jerome Williams $2.5M for 1yr.

Then go get another durable SP.

Are you assuming Harrison is done for good?

Darvish/Holland/Lewis/Tep-Martinez/Durable-Starter will be the worst rotation in the division.

I don't think much has changed as far as recovery time. Best case he is back shortly after the all-star-break, but not likely to make any significant contribution until 2016.

I think it is too early to make that statement.

Any chance LuJack or ChiChi make it out of Spring Training on the 25 man?

Darvish and Holland combined barely amassed 180 innings.

Colby Lewis will turn 36 next season and just came off a 5+ ERA season.

You could feel comfortable with Tepesch or Martinez coming in as your #5, not as your #4 behind Colby and still needing to pickup a #5.

Would absolutely be the worst rotation in the division to start the season.

- I'd expect LuJack in the mix. I'd really like to see him step in. ChiChi... I don't know... my guess is he will see some action at some point, but not to begin. Don't forget Robbie Ross.

free_mhayden

We'll see. We'll have to see who the last SP is.

Tepesch is 26. He dropped from 4.84 to 4.36 (0.48) in 1 season. If he drops that again, dude will be sub 4.00. 126 IP.
Martinez is 24. He went 4.55 in 140.1 IP

Let's look at LAAA.
Weaver (32) - 3.59\213.1 IP
CJ Wilson (33) - 4.51\175.2 IP
Richards went down with a knee blow out. Similar to Holland, IIRC. He'll be coming back from injury.
Santiago (26) - 3.75 \127.1 IP\1.36 WHIP: Converted from RP to SP
Shoemaker (28) - 3.04\136 IP \ 1.07 WHIP: He was 28 last season, and had 1 appearance prior to 2014.

I'd take Darvish (if healthy) over Weaver. No question.
I'd take Holland (if healthy) over anyone else on the Halos. No question. He was injured... performed really well when he returned.
I'd take Colby over CJWilson, at this point, but it is a wash. I think if CJ is a 4.51 pitcher... Martinez, Tepesch, whomever would match.

Houston has Keuchel... Got some good performance from McHugh (27)... Feldman?! Then who? McHugh was nothing as a 26 year old... Tep and Martinez have far more experience as McHugh at the same point in age.

CJ Wilson - 33 years old - career 3.72 ERA / 1.33 WHIP - averaged ~200 innings the last 4 years. Last year ERA of 4.51.

Colby Lewis - 35 years old - career 4.84 ERA / 1.40 WHIP - averaged ~170 innings the last 4 years. Last year ERA of 5.18.

You're probably the only person in the world (other than Colby's mom and corleone) that would try and make a case that Lewis is a wash with CJ, much less taking him over CJ.

If Colby comes back, he's filling that #5 spot above, not the #3. The Rangers, either by trade or FA, will acquire a #2-3. Tepesch probably rounds it out, which isn't exciting at all, but oh well. DA94 keeps pointing to his ERA improvement, but his peripherals were not good in 2014, indicating he's likely to trend the other direction than to exhibit some consistent year-over-year improvement. If both are in your rotation, your realisitic dream is that Tepesch can keep the ERA around 4.50 and Lewis can get under 5. Asking anything else is a dream. Those two guys will like get the first shots, with any of the up and coming pitchers who start 2015 well getting the next looks along with Martinez, likely.

Because of 40 man roster situation, zero chance Lewis signs a new deal for a while. They need to make all the space they can for the moment and they'll need to leave some while they are figuring out what to do elsewhere.

Apparently Colby's mom, corleone, and Fangraphs agree with DA...

2014 WAR

Christopher Jesus - 0.6

Big Game Colbra - 1.6

Why don't you shoot FanGraphs an email and ask who they consider the better pitcher the last 4 years and going forward.

Or better yet, how about you put some money up on who will have the better ERA over the next 3 seasons? I'm game for any amount up to $5000. You can choose the poster who can hold the money as long as they have a significant # of posts here.

Avoidance, re-direction or crickets -- place your bets on corleone's response now!

With Colby being 35 and all, i'll pass on betting on the next 3 years.

I like that your "get mad so throw out a bet" go to move has been played though.

Man you get mad when I prove you wrong.

For $5,000? Sure I'll meet up anywhere in the DFW area. My dad told me I could take his car as long as I filled it with gas after.

I anxiously await your next deflection.

What are we betting on?

I guess betting on whether CJ or Colby had a better 2014 is out, huh?
mhayden
How long do you want to ignore this user?
CJ absolutely had a better 2014, but that's not even what the original comment was so no sense in trying to use that as a re-direction now (though I can almost guarantee you'll try in your reply rather than actually following through with the wager).

DallasAg said he'd take Colby over CJ Wilson for his 2015 rotation, and at worse it's a wash.

My response is that he's the only person other than Colby's mother and you that would take him over CJ or even consider it a wash.

Then you chimed in...

So seems pretty simple to me -- you would take Colby Lewis over CJ Wilson.

Sounds good. Forget the next 3 years since suddenly now age is your concern, lets just roll with 2015.

CJ Wilson will put up a better ERA than Colby Lewis. $5000. Will meet you anywhere in DFW since you seem to have a strong obsession with that. Poster of your choice can hold the money.

Lets get this thing rollin' buddy!

Speaking of deflecting, it sure seems when you're wrong you like to deflect by offering up bets.

It's fun, though.

Ok so for the bet, i'm supposed to bet 5k that a 35 year old will have a better ERA than a spare who actully had a lower ERA than him last year in the upcoming year?

An idiot who thought CJ was better than Colby in 2014 might make that bet but I won't; too rich for my blood I guess.

You come up with a bet that makes some sense and i'm in. No need to have a poster hold the money; your word is good enough for me and I'm sure your parents will bail you out if need be.

BTW heyden, this thread got me thinking....your level of analysis in this thread(or any thread, really) along with your affinity for gambling makes me believe you've probably taken some really bad losses. I hope you've never been kneecapped or anything like that.
mhayden
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ignoring that both Baseball-Reference and ESPN have the two's WAR's completely different:

2014 CJ Wilson ERA: 4.51
2014 Colby Lewis ERA: 5.18

2014 CJ Wilson WHIP: 1.45
2014 Colby Lewis WHIP: 1.52

2014 CJ Wilson Wins: 13
2014 Colby Lewis Wins: 10

2014 CJ Wilson Losses: 10
2014 Colby Lewis Losses: 14

2014 CJ Wilson IP: 175.2
2014 Colby Lewis IP: 170.1

So CJ had a better ERA, better WHIP, more wins, less losses and more innings pitched.

You've also conceded that you wouldn't take Colby over CJ next year because you backed down to actually putting money on it.

So, yeah... CJ Wilson had a better 2014 than Colby Lewis.

But hey -- deflect, deflect, deflect. I've put you in your place again so I'll start ignoring your posts again until you put on your big boy pants and actually decide to put some money up.

But yeah when you have a bet worth making lets talk. Until then, I hope your gambling hasn't put too much of your stuff into hock.

How did Ceej perform again in the playoffs? That's right 2/3 IP in an elimination game.
