Holding on to Beltre and Darvish once they were out of it last year probably cost them their best opportunity to reload some young arms, and going to have to pay out big contracts that yield nothing of consequence.

Darvish is not a big contract. Elvis, Fielder, and Choo all look like albatross contracts tho.

Can't judge fielder until this season

Moreland hit that ball well. Just happen to hit it right at the first baseman. Like I said nothing going right tonight.

Beltre is as good as it gets and Darvish is an ace....we pay them money everytime

Fielder and Choo?......well that's another story

I can absolutely judge Fielder up to this point. He ended up one of the main anchors that sunk last season. Whether he keeps doing so is TBD, but albatross so far.

Again choo yeah he's past his prime but we can't judge fielder yet as he hasn't even played a quarter of a season in a rangers jersey and when healthy deserves to be paid

Can't judge a guy that has made $20 million for absolutely nothing so far?

He had nothing to do with how we did last year because he went disabled after week 1 or 2 last year

Fielder is going to be a bright spot on what's going to probably be a crummy season this year unless something drastic happens

Rangers did the only thing they could do last season. When you have that many key players go down, you can't go into rebuild mode nor can you be in "win-now" mode.

Deal Beltre and Darvish last year? And if Fielder comes back healthy, Holland looks good and Perez returns and looks good -- well crap, you now are short a power bat and an ace.

If Fielder and Choo proved to be healthy this year, Darvish/Holland/Gallardo/Lewis is/was a roster capable of winning 87 games. Get Perez back at the break and get a break-out season from Odor and you've got a 90 win division contender... You don't rebuild with that.

Unfortunately when Darvish went down, this regressed to a "best case scenario" 85 win team.

He played over a quarter of the season. He was only slightly more productive in uniform than he was in a hospital gown.

You think maybe his injury had maybe a little to do with that?

I think Darvish contract is big for a .600 selfish pitcher. He throws too many pitches, and give up too many long balls. He just look good doing it.

Yes, he has a lot of W's when they were giving him 7 runs a game. When the team needs innings due to injuries, he's still f'in around throwing 7-8 pitches per batter trying for SO's. No thanks, I would have sent his Primadonna self packing.

Bingo there are way to many old Rangers fans on here that think we have to operate like a small market team.

I don't disagree with mhayden. I think you at least see it thru to this year.

If you think a healthy Prince is going to put up similar #'s as the 40 games he played last year, I'll gladly put you down for Prince Fielder UNDER 12 homeruns for the 2015 season.

Sure, but spinal fusions aren't a magic cure-all. Lots of questions ahead.

He was injured from day one and even admitted it. He tried to give it a go but just couldn't play though the back injury. Look if he puts up ****ty numbers this year while being fully healthy and nothing I have seen through spring training and tonight tells me that's going to happen then yes he is a bust. Until then I'll reserve judgement on a guy who has been one of the best in baseball when healthy

Wait, you think $10-$11m/year is big for Yu Darvish?

We may have had the stupidest post of the 2015 baseball season on Day #1.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Nope, said it last year. And its not about the contract amount, its about what you could get for him that is more long term serviceable. As you can tell from my posts, I do not think the Rangers will contend with Darvish contract term, or Beltre's health.

If we are in contention, I would see Yu's value.

Sure are. But considering the spinal fusion happened after he was traded to Texas, to look back on it now and dub it a horrible decision is just a weeeee bit of hindsight.

Give him through this year? Yeah, I think giving the guy at least one healthy year before deciding to try and dump his contract for pennies on the dollar may be a smart move.

He and vet lander are the same type of pitchers they are strikeout first pitchers and frankly I'm fine with that.

Just oiinting out that they built the lineup around him last year, paid him $20 mill, and got zilch. So If that doesn't qualify as an albatross, I don't know what does. Let me know when they start keeping score.
