Well, curious to see how much of his contract the Angels will pay (would expect a ****ton) and/or what kind of contract can be dumped on them in exchange.

So now the rest of the season will be DA94 complaining about JD and Bannister with War and Peace length diatribes? Super
Nah... I've made my peace. For now. Until the next day off. Then, I'll probably complain since there is no game, pass the stone and move on again.

@JeffPassan Sources: Rangers are expected to pay around $15M of Josh Hamilton's salary. He's due more than $80M through 2017. Angels pay the difference.

5 mil a year to give him a chance to bounce back. It's not the best thing they could have done but its certainly not the worst.

The rumor they were talking about on the Ticket was that the Rangers were sending Choo to the Angels as well. That would be an absolute slam dunk for the Rangers, imo.

$5M/yr for 3 years of Hamilton is easy money spent!

COOL - If Choo is added?! Then JD, Bannister and everyone in the Rangers organization should get "Front-Office of the Year."

LA Times baseball writer on Twitter says Choo not involved.

MLB Network just said Angels getting no players back.

Basically the Angels are paying $68 million just to make Hamilton go away.

Too bad.

IF Choo went to LAAA for Hamilton and Texas is only on the hook for $5M/yr for '15-17 and LAAA eat Choo's contract... SWEET!

Take $20M/yr off the books for Choo through 2020. A net of $15M for 15-17.

Look to Philly for Hamels?

A 2016 rotation of
Darvish
Hamels
Gallardo
Martin Perez
Holland

Looks good.

No way would the Angels pay off Hamilton and take a **** contract in return.

Well since I'm in the front office, I could dig that accolade

I am torn about this. The potential upside is tremendous. The potential problems are tremendous. But for only 5 mill a year. I think it worth the risk. He really needs to be contrite and make amends with the fans though. Also the lolligagging needs to never happen again.
DannyDuberstein

The potential problems aren't tremendous for the organization. At that price, you can quickly say "buh-bye" if he's trouble.

And on the bright side, the pressure to perform to a big contract is no longer on him and expectations are largely reset. Might help him find his way. I think a large part of his issues the past few years stemmed from the pressure of the contract year and then the contract itself. He's a mental midget. Just go play ball now.

The largest part of his issues are off-season indiscretions. He falls off the wagon and everything else spirals. It creates problems at home, with his closest teammates, fans...

That is why I think he could have a good season and then fall apart in the off-season. All of his past problems have started with falling off the wagon. Taking shots in a bar with chicks, Sherlocks and this past off-season.

Yeah, he has the occasional issue during the season, but if he doesn't have the off-season issue, the other issues can be shaken off, IMO.

he went from 2009 to 2012 without an apparent slip. But when he did in 2012, he awkwardly commented about his contract status. Just from an on-the-field perspective, the strange on-the-field behavior and underperformance didn't surface until 2012.

I could see that playing out like that. I could also see a huge and spectacular meltdown. But like you say at that amount of money they could simply cut bait. I want him to do good. Will be interesting however it turns out

And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's going to be a success. But I am curious to see what the combination of familiar surroundings and not playing for a $25mm/yr deal might lead to.

I might just be simple-minded, but I'm excited the Rangers have made some moves in an attempt to improve or just create a spark.

Adding Josh might help spark the O. I'd like to see Andrus, Choo & Beltre get rolling.

Adding Wandy might get the pitching started. I don't know much about him, other than he was a long time Astro. Not sure how he is in the clubhouse or with younger pitchers. But he is an arm with MLB experience with 248 GS. That is more GS than Darvish (83), Holland (129), Detwiler (72) & Martinez (27) combined. Could probably add Tepesch, too.

I lied. I went back to count and that is 311 for those 4.

His career OPS at Rangers Ballpark is .962. If he can stay healthy and keep his head on straight, it's a pure steal at $5MM per year.

He's definitely shown some flashes. Definitely enough to make me think he can be a contributor in the rotation. Of course that's not saying a ton.

Jerad Eickoff tonight went 8.1 \ 1 H \ 2 ER \ 2 BB \ 11 SO for AAA Round Rock.
24-RHP. He'll be 25 in July.

He has to be thinking he could get the call.
