AL Manager of Year: Banister

NL MVP: Harper
NL Cy Young: Grienke

NL Manager of Year: Collins

Unless Keuchel absolutely implodes the next 2 weeks, he'll be AL Cy Young.

Yeah, it was a tough call between Keuchel and Price. Gray is also in the discussion as well.

Jake Arrieta for NL Cy Young is my vote.

I know Correa gets all the talk around here, but I'm not sure he's the lock for ROY some people think. Lindor is right there too.

Agreed. Sano will get some votes too.

Admittedly I'm a homer but how can Joe Maddon not win Manager Of The Year in the NL?

I get the enthusiasm but does giving a MOY to a third place finisher ever happen?

C'mon. The Cubs, who finished last a season ago (for the third straight season, I think) are going to win around 95 games with 5-6 rookies starting on a daily basis. They're about to catch the Pirates for 2nd which would also give them the 2nd best record in all of baseball.

In what could be one of the best divisions ever.

I couldn't argue with Maddon or Collins, but I bet Maddon wins. Mets have come on strong, but the Cubs are the story of the year in NL.

Maddon, just for the amount of rookies alone. The Mets have done it against the Phillies, Marlins and Braves...the Mets are 9-20 vs the central division.

Manager of the Year voting in the National League is a tough one to handicap. In the last 11 years, only one time has the voted Manager of the Year (which takes place after the playoffs) actually advanced his team passed the divisional round ('07 Diamondbacks - Bob Melvin).

It's kind of been a "you did a great job getting this club to the playoffs but they weren't good enough to actually make any noise in them" award.

Voting takes place before the playoffs, yes? Just winners aren't announced until after.
mhayden

Ahhh that may explain it then -- I had to google to see when awards were announced and stupidly assumed that voting took place around the same time (which doesn't make sense).

So it's a curse.

Keuchel vs Price for the Cy Young.

ERA: 2.51 vs 2.34
W-L: 18-8 vs 17-5
Complete Games: 3 vs 3
Shut Outs: 2 vs 1
Ks: 203 vs 219
WAR: 6.7 vs 6.5
WHIP: 1.023 vs 1.068
IP: 219 vs 215.1 (#1 and #2)

It doesn't get much closer than this. If Dallas can find a way to get to 20 wins, then I think the award is his just because people hold that number high.

At what point do you lose votes for not playing enough games. He's at only at 67 now.

Maybe I just have a soft spot for underrated right fielders, but Shin-Soo Choo would be top 5 in the AL if I had a vote. The other RF I had in mind was Paul O'Neil, who was never given the credit he deserved on some of those great Yankee teams.

If Keuchel doesn't win his next game AND the Astros miss the playoffs, I bet he doesn't get it. If he pitches well, it will be very close. Both have had dominant seasons.

DALLAS VS DAVID

ERA: 2.47 vs 2.45
W-L: 19-8 vs 18-5
Complete Games: 3 vs 3
Shut Outs: 2 vs 1
Ks: 213 vs 225
WAR: 7.3 vs 6.0
WHIP: 1.009 vs 1.086
IP: 226 vs 220.1

To me its Dallas's at this point. He's going to have to have a bad start to lose it.

Wow! These are really close.

However, Price will win it because he is playing East of the MS river.

I'm not sure either finish in the top 3 in the NL this year. It's a great year for top end pitchers.

Bannister had more to deal with then any other manager in the running but not surprised some ignorant Houston homer can't be realistic.

He's crazy for thinking the team with best AL record has the best coach this year

Squirrel Master

I think Bannister wins it, due to the late season comeback and overcoming the pitching injuries along with where the Rangers were one year ago. But it's pretty reasonable to vote for Gibbons, and it'll be close I'd imagine. Hinch will finish 3rd behind those two.

I don't think he's crazy, but I believe Banister is the most deserving. No team lost more games to injury than the Rangers, and that includes not having the bulk of their rotation for much of the season. Gibbons has done a great job, but the sheer volume of games missed from key players that the Rangers have had to suffer through gives Banister the edge. Of course, I'm biased though.
