Ehh, it goes both ways. There are plenty of Astros fans who would get extra enjoyment if the astros were the team to knock off the rangers. I believe there are plenty of comments in the Astros thread to back up that assertion.
I'm sure there are, I'm not one of them.

I honestly have very little issue with the Astros
And I have none with the Rangers or at least with the club itself, I'm not particularly fond of some of its fan base. I have probably attended more Rangers games then most of the trash talking Pow Pow LLRF on TexAgs. A large part of that has to do with my age but it is mostly due to the fact I simply love the game of baseball and going to games and when I made my way to Arlington I pulled for the Rangers.

I used to root for them in the national league.
God knows I'd love it if the Astros were still in the NL even though it would probably have meant no postseason this year considering the strength of the NL Central..

It's hard to root for Houston now that we are in the same division though.
Fair enough. I'm still primarily a fan of the NL (still pulling for the NL in the All-Star Game) and unless the Astros win the AL Pennant my heart will probably be with the NL team in the Series unless it is effing Dodgers (one of the two pro sports franchises I truly hate, the other being the Washington Redskins). It would also be tough to pull for the Mets.

This year has been fun and a true rivalry could be brewing. . .
It has been fun and I hope a true rivalry is in the making. Other than the one or two preseason tilts the Rangers and Astros use to have back when I was a kid, I have never attended a Rangers vs Astros game. I did not like the forced nature of the so called rivalry when the teams were in separate leagues and until this year I only visited MMP for interleague games since the Astros move AL.
