Who choked more the Rangers being up 2-0 coming home or Astros being up 2-1 at home up 6-2 in the 8th?

I think the Astros. 6 outs away up 6-2 at home and blow it.

Rangers still had to win 1 more game and were really never close in any of the final 3 games. The 7th inning fiasco was horrible but the Blue Jays still has 6 more outs only down 1 even if Rangers avoid the errors in the 7th.

Rangers and Astros have a lot in common.

It's a toss up but I have to think what Astros fans experienced in the 8th inning on Monday felt worse than the Rangers' error filled seventh today.

Who cares. Is this really gonna be a line of smack now?

Up 2-1 in the series, 6-2 in the game and you needed 6 outs. Instead you give up 7 runs.

Rangers were up 2-0 & had 3 chances where they needed to win just one game.

Pretty bad for both teams.

Rangers.

They were up 2-0 in the series, were gifted the lead in 7th inning of game 5 then came back to give up runs off 3 errors, an epic bomb, and completely lost composure including 2 bench clearings and a complete bed sheeting.

The Astros sheety BP imploded in one inning of the series that cost them the ALCS.

Who cares...

Rangers and not even close. Steal first two games on the road and can't win one more

WGAF. We both made it to the DS and we both lost to good teams that deserve to be headed to the next series. **** it. Let it go and think about next year when both these teams meet in the ALCS NEXT OCTOBER! Put it on the board!

I was at the Astro's game on Monday. I watched the full replay of the 7th inning of the Ranger's game. I call them equivocal overall. Horrific. If I have to pick one, the Ranger's melt down was just a little bit worse in form while emotionally the Astro's meltdown was worse.

People still believe that the "Law of Averages" is real thing.

... And they both absolutely had great seasons. Just because you vastly exceed expectations doesn't mean you can't choke.

1) Astros choked away an eight game division lead in less than a month.
2) Rangers and their ****ty defense, choked away another series clinching game.
3) Astros choked away a four run lead with six outs to go - at home, to clinch the series.
That's a lot of gagging to go around for both groups.

Both teams were playing with house money. Both teams got way up with house money.
Both teams lost all their house money.

As far as percentage chance of winning goes, Astros had the bigger choke in Game 4... But at least aside from one error, it was the other team that beat them with hits. You throw the ball, they get hits, that's the game.

Texas still wasn't that high a win expectancy even up 3-2 going to B7 in Toronto... Anyone watching that series could tell you a tie felt like 1 run down, a 1 run lead felt like a tie game... But to give up the baserunners on 3 bonehead errors and one mis-play (Odor should have caught the ball, but at least he got one out) just makes it so bad.

In short -- Houston should have won the series and couldn't close the door. Texas had a chance to win the series and **** the bed.

Great seasons for the two Texas teams, but neither could close it out when it mattered.

Two teams that should be good for years to come.

Given that the definition of choke suggests that you have it in your grasp and blow it, the Astros would seem to have this one. But, they had one 5 hit streak of choke/bad luck. The Rangers had to put together a prolonged 4 day run of suckitude in order to blow that 2-0 lead. I don't think that is a choke, but it is a massive suck.

As a choke, the Rangers b/c they just flat out gave away the game/series. 3 straight errors on easy plays. That was worse than Buckner.

The Astros was more gut wrenching b/c of the big lead and only 6 outs to go. But the Royals got hits in Game 4.

The Astros had a 98.4% peak win probability on Monday.

The closest the Rangers got was 88.8% win probability (assuming roughly 50% win probability between games 4 and 5) when they had a 55.1% win probability in the second inning of game 3 tied at 0-0.

I say give the astros the "not the biggest choke" banner. they can hang it next to AJ Hinch's "smallest pair of nuts on a manager" banner.

Yeah, I think people forget that even if Texas gets out of the 7th, they still have just a 1 run lead on the road against the best hitting team in baseball with the bullpen coming in.

If Sam Dyson gives up a 3 run bomb after the errors, not a stretch to think he would have given up a solo shot without them. Toronto can just flat out mash.
