It was already well known LaRoche has plenty of interests outside of baseball he hunts and fishes, owns a ranch and stars in a reality TV show but a 10-day trip to Southeast Asia in November with his good friend, Milwaukee Brewers reliever Blaine Boyer, where they went undercover in brothels to identify and rescue underage sex slaves, altered LaRoche's perspective even more:
quote:
When it came time to board a flight back home, LaRoche hesitated. "I was sick," he says. "I was thinking about my kids and then thinking about the hundreds of thousands of parents who are searching for their 12-year-old daughters."
quote:
As they waited for their plane, LaRoche asked Boyer, "What are we doing? We're going back to play a game for the next eight months?"
WOW!
I have been to India 3 times on Mission Trips. I have seen these children. I work with a group that rescues them. I have 2 that I financially adopted. The younger has a scar all the way down her left cheek. This scar was given to her by her dad when she was infant so that he could sell her to slavery, more specifically...child-prostitution. The scar is a symbol to defile her face so that no man would want to marry her. Watch Slumdog Millionaire and you will see this mark happen in the movie. Anyhow, she and her sister are amazing. The orphanage I visit has 700 kids that are rescues from situations like this. Every time I read a story, see a billboard, or part of a discussion about child-prostitution, I get emotional. This is a huge problem that needs to be erased.
I support Adam for his decision. He will get a job somewhere and be just fine. Making millions of dollars vs. making $100k per year is no biggie when it comes to having to sacrifice family. I would not quit my job if my employer told me that I could no longer have my children come to the office for about an hour every-other-day, but the point is that this was important to Adam and he is sticking to his decision. I praise him for that!
