Home field to the best record between the two remaining teams, pretty simple really.

Like the NFL?
So are you advocating the World Series be played at a neutral site?
No. I'm stating that in the NFL, there is no home field for the SB (well, can be), so tying it to a Pro Bowl or something is pointless. Playoff home field is determined by records, much like in baseball.

Why do you care so much about a ******* exhibition game? To me I'm more concerned about the integrity of the game of baseball.Teams should earn home field advantage due to their on field play throughout the season, They shouldn't get lucky because their league happened to win an All-Star game.

To me, I like having the sports best players actually playing for something. If they weren't, you'd see pitchers throwing meatballs to their friends so they can hit bombs, and having SS's try some goofy behind the back from the glove toss to second base. That's not fun for me and not worth my time. What's the point of watching something if there's no competition? MLB might as well designate a week in July to no games and cancel the ASG if they don't want it to mean something.

So the All-Star game means more to you than the World Series? I just don't get it.

How did you come to that conclusion? I'm just saying that I like having the game mean something. If you don't like this format, you must have really hated the alternating home field that MLB used to have, and if you're a baseball purist, that should be what you want it to go back to. Until 2002, home field was determined by nothing more than the last digit of the year. So, in essence, MLB has never really cared about the WS either by your logic.

HR Derby before Game One to decide home field.

Of course that won't happen but man it'd get ratings and is a better determinant than some reliever from Minnesota (didn't watch the game, so I'm not basing this on that) blowing a game against a Cincinnati hitter - forcing the Rangers to go to Chicago for Game One.

A guy at work is a huge Cubs fan, and I keep reminding him that water always finds its level. Given how much they've struggled recently, he's beginning to come around.

Well you seem to be more worried about the AS game not being boring than the home field for the WS being awarded to a team that actually earned it. And the alternating home field between leagues was dumb too but there could be SOME sort of argument for it back before interleague play started.

Yeah, I like a game being played to mean something, and MLB and other fans obviously think the same because they changed it after the '02 (IIRC) game ended in a tie.

I said something similar on the Astros thread before I saw this one...a workable compromise would be to use the combined results of interleague play to determine HFA...it's not perfect, but it's better than using a single exhibition game as the sole determinant. Use the ASG as a tiebreaker if needed, which wouldn't be very often.

I haven't given it a whole lot of thought, but maybe they should just use head to head records from the regular season to determine who gets home field. Interleague play makes that easy, regardless of each league's strength/depth.

The Rangers won't play every team from the NL, so head to head won't work. Don't over complicate things, it's a 162 game regular season. If the NL winner goes 90-72, and the AL winner goes 96-66, the AL team should get home field. Simple.

I think he's just got a case of the butthurt from the recent AL dominance over the NL. Poor guy just wants a W.

Wasn't aware of that. I was under the impression that each team played at least one series against the others. Hmm.. back to the drawing board.

(For the record, I'm fine with the overall records deciding home field. But I'm also not complaining about the way it's being done right now either. It's never going to be a perfect system without balanced schedules.)

I couldn't care less what the league records are. I care that it could potentially cost my team home field advantage in the WS that they rightfully earned on the field which is a pretty big deal. It surprises me that some of you are too ignorant to realize why this is bad for the game.

Could potentially? In reality, it only impacts 1 team. Also, if you're team is in the AL, it shouldn't be a problem.

It was the only at bat that I cared about the entire night. The wife and I both came off the couch and yelled when he painted that corner.

I love that Harris looks so stressed out on the mound, like every pitch is the most important pitch of his career. He almost looks like he's in panic mode, but he's in control the entire time.

I'm guessing he's a Cub fan since he said 'Stupid Cardinal...' and he's expecting his team to be in the WS and they 'could potentially' rightfully earned the best record in baseball.
