Media reporting Markakis turned down bigger offers.

He really declined the back half of the year and was an average player the previous 3 years. Plus he turned down more money to go back to Braves.

Major League Baseball also wants to require players who are optioned to the minor leagues to remain there for 15 days, rather than the current 10. Per the Associated Press report: "Talks are ongoing and are expected to extend to the eve of spring training, if not beyond."

I thought SD was in a monitoring program. Their debt load to income and value was above a threshold that MLB watches. This contract doesn't seem to improve that.

The contract isn't bad, but Manny to San Diego seems like A-Rod Part Deaux to me. San Diego better hope their prospects are ready to thrive otherwise they are spending a lot of money to go from a 96 loss team to a 86 loss team over the next few years.

for sure, but I think he could have gotten more money in his contract if he signed first since he and Manny were still unsigned. No doubt it will still be a large payday.

Petco isn't really a significant pitchers park anymore especially for right handed hitters after moving the fences in on the left field side. Although it is no Yankee Stadium or Camden Yards it currently ranks at an average level for ballpark factor, and for every game played at AT&T there is one at Coors. Not that Machado cares about anything but money, but its not the worst place to go for hitting stats anymore.

Reports are Harper to Phillies. One report is 13 years 330 million with no opt outs. If so, seems like Boras didn't win here. Especially if the 10 years for 300 from Nationals was true.

I think Boras has to have some egg on his face the way his guys seem to be getting deals under their value the past couple of offseasons. AAV well under Machado and no opt out? Plus how little Moose got both times.
