On the plus side we have one of the fastest guys in baseball to run in that situation.

I'd honestly rather see draws after nine. I can tolerate something weird in an unusual season. I can't tolerate violating the surprisingly robust accounting of baseball.

Agreed - this is a perfect opportunity to try out certain ideas that have been thrown around but at the end of the game, the box score should balance up.

Yep. And if Ted is already in the game, we can use Straw... who is also fast.

We're going to have some crazy stats for such a short season.

Altuve will be first .400 hitter since Ted Williams!

Correa is about to be on sports radio 790 at 4. Should be a good interview

I thought at the end they were hinting at it but then they made it more of a "prove yourselves because of game 7 last year" angle

Here's the rundown:

1. He and the team have been working out pretty hard since negotiations started last month. Said he feels like they are in prime shape. He said spring training this year was the best he had felt with his game and shape since rookie year. So that was frustrating when it got cut short.

2. He said in reference to their question about "when are we going to see full 162 game Correa", he answered that he wants that as bad as anybody and said with the numbers he puts up when healthy he would be the top SS in league no doubt if he put a full season together

3. Said he is excited to play and that whoever wins the title this year will not have an asterisk because every team has a chance to win it

4. Every game matters this season because you can't have a bad week or two stretch like you can in a 162 game season.

5. He believes they are the best team this year and wants to prove that. Thinks our championship window isn't shrinking and we will win this year. He's also excited to see LMJ pitch again.

6. He went on a tangent about how he and his teammates will continue to celebrate after big plays like they usually do, but it'll be different without fans. He referenced his game 2 ALCS walkoff homerun celebration.

7. Said his brother is excited to be an Astro and they workout together all the time

That's about it

Just put it in the back of your minds....they're going to open camp and maybe even start the season. Then the COVID is going to rear it's ugly head and we're going to have a delayed/cancelled season.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

From last year's results, we'll play 3 teams with winning records (LAD, OAK, AZ). Everyone else was 68-78 win range. I don't think OAK or AZ will be as good, but LAA may take a step forward. LADshould be really good again.

How are the divisions going to be set up? I am really curious how the scheduling is going to work. I can only assume we are going to get the shaft from MLB.

Divisions are going to be the normal ones.

10 each against divisional foes (40)
4 each against each interleague opponent (don't know if one opponent will be split 2-2 home/away...seems like we do that with either the Rockies or the Diamondbacks every year).

It would make sense to do 5 game series with division opponents to limit traveling.

I'm confused... so do we get to beat the Yankees again before the postseason? Or is it just the 4 divisional teams and interleague against 5 NL neighbors... assuming that would be the Padres, Dodgers, Giants, Rockies and Diamondbacks?

The latter. All of our games are against West division teams.

Here's a bit more info....

Major League Baseball issued a 60-game schedule Tuesday night that will start July 23 or 24 in empty ballparks as the sport tries to push ahead amid the coronavirus following months of acrimony.

Each team will play 10 games against each of its four division rivals and four games vs. each of the five clubs in the corresponding division in the other league, according to details obtained by The Associated Press.

A team is scheduled to make only one trip to each city it visits in MLB's shortest season since 1878.

In a twist, the sides expanded the designated hitter to games involving National League teams and instituted the radical innovation of starting extra innings with a runner on second base.

The number of playoff teams will remain at 10, though that still could change.

The trade deadline will be Aug. 31 and the deadline for postseason eligibility is Sept. 15.

Active rosters will be 30 during the first two weeks of the season, 28 during the second two weeks and 26 after that. They will not expand to 28 on Sept. 1, as originally intended this year.

With no minor leagues, teams would be allowed to retain 60 players each, including a taxi squad. Up to three players from the taxi squad can travel with a team to a game, and one of the three must be a catcher.

MLB is keeping the innovation of the three-batter minimum for pitchers, but decided to keep the injured list minimum for pitchers at 10 days rather than revert to 15, as initially intended. But the new rule remains in place that a pitcher must face at least three batters or finish the half inning.

So we play:

AL - #6, 7, 10, 12. All x10
NL - #1, 10, 11, 12, 14. All x4

Not too shabby. Not at all. That's a huge scheduling advantage.

We need to go at least 15-5 against the Rangers and Mariners

The dodgers and A's will be tough

I think the Rays will be stout in a short season. They can ride that pen without much fear of a burnout.
