I wouldnt say "bad" signings… but there were better ones out there to make

Hopefully Diaz stays healthy and we never need Goodrum. Also if Baez can just be a sub 4.00 ERA guy that would be ideal.

Baez won't be sub 4 ERA. Most relievers don't stay sub 4 ERA. Hell, our bullpen average was 4.06 last year.

We'd be lucky if he was sub 9 ERA at that velocity. No ER charged last night but he still looked awful.

They suck but I don't know about terrible signings.

The Baez we signed is nowhere the Baez we got. Not sure there was any way to see the injury and this decline.

We were never expecting much from Goodrum. He was a Robel replacement. Diaz is still our first IFer off the bench.

Maybe if he wasn't off gallivanting in Italy, LA, Turks and Caicos and actually spending time with the team and rehabbing properly to pitch the WS then maybe he'd get the A team.

I was born and raised in HTown, went to Robert E Lee HS, and of course A&M. (was a coach, including baseball a couple of years) I grew up an Astro fan from the beginning was an Astro buddy and have Keith Lampard's only MLB HR which I tried to get back to him some 30 years ago but never got contacted back by the Stros.

For last 9 years I lived in the Middle East and we just moved back to the US (Virginia) in July.

My point? I haven't seen a single Astro game on tv or live during that time. Always highlights and Youtubes. Every so often I would follow a game by E5 this thread.

Point being?

For the first time in many years I actually got to watch a game live last night. And all I have to say is wow.

It is absolutely clear why this team has been in the ALCS 5 years in a row. They just flat are loaded with guys who are good, know they are good and know how to win. They really have great chemistry and they feed off each other.

I watched last night as they just flat up stood up and said, "Ahh No Halo's, know your freaking place under our foot". Don't even think you are going to compete with us for this division title or we will crush you like a bug" and that is exactly what they did last night.

And it come come from multiple sources in multiple ways, like Brantly gunning down that dude at the plate or like Siri catching the sinking line drive, both of those were like gut punchs! LOL and then he stole that run.

Then Montero comes in and just smokes their big three. And then boom! I actually found myself feeling sorry for whatever other fodder of a reliever they were going to throw up there. You could just see their body language in the pin when called "Oh ****"! LOL They didn't want to go out there. Really, you could see it.
I now see why this teams just restocks, it is the culture and the chemistry and the attitude. They have a core of sound vets that really know how to take young guys, bring them in and not let them get either overwhelmed or cocky.

This is a really really good organization, and we should enjoy it.

Yea I know there is long season and there are ups and downs, but the deal is THEY KNOW THAT and they KNOW that one Oct comes around they are going to be there at the finish line, barring massive injuries, and even then they maybe there, They know how to win, they expect to win and they bring up the youngsters in to that environment.

That trot around the bases might be the most impressive thing I've seen in an MLB game in a while. You know that young man's heart had to be jumping out of his chest but he acted like he's done it a thousand times. He could really serve as a good example to a lot of major league players.

And you can see where he gets that class - his father was obviously thrilled but showed just a little more emotion than I do when the Aggies kick an extra point. That's a good family.

I don't think we'll miss Correa that much offensively if we don't have extensive injuries to big contributors. I know it's way early on Peña but I think he'll be fine in the field . I think it's clear he doesn't have the cannon arm that Correa has. Will need to make up for that as a team other places of course. I haven't attempted to quantify that but Correa's arm saves a bunch of runs. If I had to guess I'd say it saves one run a week on average and that may be low.

Correa was an excellent playoff performer . His experience and history there is a bit of a concern to me but se la vie.

Agree, OPAG.
These guys don't need to talk s..t, they walk it, show it, and flat out get it done.
Houston has never had a franchise with this kind of longevity and results. The Rockets and ' heart of a champion' comes close, but not there in longevity and league-wide respect.
I have quite a few friends from Lee, '75-'77 grads
