Just saw that. The Padres have them at home then go on the road at LA and AZ. They will be completely dialed in to sweep this series. Anything 5-4 clinches it so even 3-6 is almost certain to get in.

The CWS are in a lot of trouble in the next series.

Baseball is funny. The White Sox are on pace to be the worst MLB team since the 1800s and still have won almost a quarter of their games at .235%.

In the NBA we've had a couple of 76ers teams in the 70s go 9-73 and 10-72 (bested in worst win percentage by the Bobcats in 2012 with their 7-59 mark and .106%).

5 teams have gone winless in the NFL since 1944.

In the NHL the worst record is the Capitals 1974 season at 8-65-5 (ties) for a .131%.

I'd like to see the Sox close out on a strong winless streak.

A few more tidbits

At the All-Star break they were 27-71, on pace for 45 wins.
Since then, they've gone 9-46 (.164)

They have a winning record of 2-1 vs. the Braves, Cardinals and the Rockies, and are 4-2 vs. the Devil Rays, along with 3-3 against the A's. As of this morning, take away those teams and they are 23-109 against everybody else.

They are bizarrely competitive 5-8 vs the Indians. However Chicago is 1-12 vs KC, 1-12 vs. Minnesota, and 1-9 vs Detroit with 3 games to go. Yep, those 3 teams are a combined 33-3 against the White Sox.

AL Central standings for top 4 (all games)

Cleveland 89-65
Kansas City 82-71
Minnesota 80-73
Tigers 80-73

AL Central standings for top 4 (without White Sox games)
Cleveland 81-60
Kansas City 70-70
Minnesota 68-72
Detroit 71-72

The schadenfreude is strong with me, watching this chase of shame is one of the more exciting races to end the season.

AL modern record (post 1900) record for losses now has a co-owner.

2003 Tigers 43-119
2024 White Sox 36-119

'03 Tigers went 5-2 in their last seven to avoid the Mets' 120 loss mark. Not seeing a 7-0 finish for the Sox...

Loss #120 achieved, blowing a lead vs. the Padres, who won their 90th for the first time since 2010.

Unless they get annihilated all week, looks like they will avoid the worst run differential ever which is -349. They are currently at -320, tied for 5th worst ever.

The franchise started the season with an all-time record of 9,553 wins and 9,491 losses. That's a .502 winning percentage. They are now at: 9.859 wins and 9,611 loses, a .4994 winning percentage. A franchise that has played more than 19,000 games all-time saw its winning percentage drop 3 points in 1 season.

The have 125 home runs as a team in 2024. Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani have combined for 108.

Chris Flexen, their innings leader, is 2-15 with an ERA of 5.15.
Reliever Michael Soroka is 0-10 on the year with 1 hold and a 5.09 ERA.
Their save leader is Michael Kopech, who has 9, along with a 2-8 record.

Sox scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th to win 3-2. 5 more chances to beat the Mets record.

White Sox beat the Angels 4-3 on a walk off single in the bottom of the 10th inning. Still have 4 chances to get to 121 losses.

Oh no! White Sox have won 3 in a row and are stuck on 120 losses. They close the season against the Tigers who are playing for a playoff spot.

Have the ChiSox/Tigers on my smaller TV and Royals/Braves on the bigger one. I've really come to like this Royals team. They're a lot of fun to watch, and I live in Missouri. The Royals have the tiebreaker over the Tigers, but still...

Go Royals!
Go Sox!

Welp, there it is...121 in the books.

Lose one more and they'll also be worse than the '62 Mets by percentage. Those Mets were 40-120.

Fantastic finish by the White Sox.

On September 3rd, they were on a 12 game losing streak, sitting at 31-109. From this point forward they finished 10-12, including winning 5 of their last 6 to finish 41-121. They tied the Mets with 120 losses after 156 games, and broke the record in game 160. Good that the record was broken in the same number of games as the 62 Mets, removing all doubt as to who the loss leader is.

This gives them a higher win percentage (.253 vs .250) than the 62 Mets, and more wins (41 vs 40). Both of these were in doubt even a week ago. Winning the last two games, the two extra games over the 62 Mets season, pushed them above 40 wins to avoid falling short of that mark as well.

Over the season, they won 8 series, and split 1 4-game set, this includes losing every single series for the months of July and August. Two of these series wins were the last two series of the season.

The downfall was swift, they won their division in 2021 with a record of 93-69, broke 100 losses in 2023, and set records in 2024. The Tigers lost 119 games in 2003, and made the playoffs 3 years later. Will the White Sox have a similar turn around?

The Sox won 5 of their last 6, which is what the 2003 Detroit Tigers did to keep from breaking the 1962 Mets record.
