Arenado would have been smart to pick Houston.

Breggy would have been smart to take the deal.

Now, both are hanging out

I would love to have added Diekman to the pen.

I guess I will have to settle for a chance that Montero fixes himself. Which isn't that crazy. Relievers to this. They are hot and cold year to year.

My personal favorite was Springer's bomb in Game 5 of 2017. Lucky to be there in person, Springer misplayed a ball in center that cost the Astros the lead. He then led off the next inning with a bomb to left center.

For my money, Game 5 of 2017 is the greatest baseball game ever played.

From what I've heard a lot of his problems are very fixable. Just comes down to whether he's willing to make the changes that need to be made

In summary he gone. If Alex goes to Boston it really screws up the Arenado stuff.
If Alex ships up to Boston, hopefully Dana finds out how badly the Cardinals want Arenado off the books.

Another forgotten homerun was Correa's 2020 ALCS game 5 walk off to cut the series deficit to 3-2

Had we won that series it would be a legendary moment

I agree with all of this. It really sucks I went to game 4 lol.

That homerun was really special and one of my all time favorites. The heart and soul of the team completely whiffed and possibly blew the game but then he proves why he's the heart and soul and get's it back first pitch.

Attendance was horrible for the playoffs that year, and those that were there were stiff as a board and not even into the game

In the safety of other Astros fans..

I can't help but feel a little apprehensive when remembering those 2017 amazing moments at home.

I strongly believe that the sign stealing thing is way overblown and that the competitive advantage was much smaller than most believe. I've seen the data showing that our wRC+ was actually lower on pitches logged with "bangs."

Evan Gattis went on twitter last year and said he knew what pitch was coming on his ALCS G7 homer. With no one on base.

I know some say the World Series was too loud and there was no system, but if Gattis could get a signal in a Game 7...

I wish I could fully enjoy Yuli's shot, Springers no doubter, Altuve's clutch three-run bomb the way I used to, but for me the enjoyment is lesser.

I know many of you may have no issue and that is all good. It is just hard for me to push out that doubt. I hate that there is doubt at all.

So give me Altuve's 2019 Walk Off. There was never a buzzer or any nonsense there.

Nope. Nothing can ever take away how I felt in those moments and I'll remember them forever.

That is an interesting way to think of it.

I will never forget the way I felt in the moment either. That was 100% incredible.

It is the rewatching now that reduces my enjoyment. But I do I still enjoy them.

The Astros didn't "cheat' any more than a zillion other teams in a zillion other years.

The Rockets won a title first, but 2017, with Hurricane Harvey looming in the background as a rallying cry, is the pinnacle of Houston sports greatness for me as a lifelong Astro fan dating back to the mid-70s

Understandable -- but look at is this way: sign stealing and operations for sign stealing go back for YEARS in baseball. The Yankees and Red Sox were admonished for it earlier in the year, but the league really didn't crack down.

Bobby Thomson's famous "Giants won the pennant" home run was from a stolen sign.
The White Sox in the 80s and 90s had a system with the lights at Comisky.
There are also reports that several other clubs in 2017 also had systems.

Whether the Astros knew what was coming or not -- they still had to perform. Stats have also shown -- as you mentioned -- the Astros performed worse with the bangs.

I don't think it lessens my enjoyment one bit. I still love all the highlights from 2017. Hitting a baseball is -- and always will be -- one of the hardest things to do in sports.

Same.

And the whole "scandal" doesn't bother me in the slightest because we all know how universal such sign-stealing systems were across the league. Every single damn team was doing it. The only real scandal, IMHO, is the way the Astros were scapegoated for it. All these butt-hurt fans of other teams whinging about Astros players getting immunity are either too obtuse or too stupid to recognize that without immunity the Astros players were going to burn down the league and call out all the other teams doing the same exact thing.

Fck 'em if they couldn't win when doing the same stuff and fck 'em for crying about it. Bunch of fcking hypocrites.

Also to add -- tipping pitches. Are other teams, see the Phillies in 2022, cheating for catching LMJ tipping pitches and lighting him up? They cracked what he was doing and teed off.

Baseball players are going to baseball. They are going to steal signs. They are going to see if a pitcher is tipping. The batters want to get a leg up however they can because again -- hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things to do in sports.

To be fair that's a completely different thing than what the Astros were doing

True, but how did the Phillies see he was tipping? Did they compare on replays? Or was it by seeing it live?

Heck, we were taught to watch for certain things even back in high school.

All of this is true. Using zoomed in cameras and algorithms to crack sign sequences and then relaying live to the batter goes beyond "baseball player gaining an advantage with his wits"

The Astros definitely took it too far in my opinion. Not that there was any rule saying just how far you could take it. Not that we know definitively no other team was also taking it this far.

I love the Astros and dedicate way too much time thinking about them. I push down plenty and am guilty of cognitive dissonance when it comes to some of this stuff.

It is easiest to say "every other team was doing exactly the same thing and it actually didn't help one bit and we would have won no matter what" and a lot of days that is how I think about the scandal.

But six years after the thing broke, I still wish they didn't take it so far. That is just how I feel.

I get that -- and that's probably the case, but what was preventing them from looking at replays to confirm their theories?

I'm just sayin.'

That's where there I believe there is an issue. It's legal for batters to use electronics to see some of the things the pitcher is doing and what he's throwing -- checking to see if he brings his hands too high on one pitch or has another tell, but it's illegal to use electronic devices to check or decode signs.

Don't get me wrong -- the Astros went too far with their scheme, but it doesn't take any enjoyment from me.

We've lived in Georgetown for 30 years now. It is my current home. But I was born and raised on the west side of Houston. I am a proud native Houstonian. I wear a 2017 World Series navy blue fitted Astro cap all the time. I've had friends try to belittle that '17 title. BS
The Astros are Houston's team, it's heart and soul. When Harvey knocked Houston to it's knees, the Astros put the city on it's back and brought home a world championship. No way in hell do I ever forget that.

What did LMJ throw… 27 straight curveballs to the Yankees and they couldn't hit it. I mean I get it a little, but hitting a baseball is ****ing hard.

I will stop with the devil's advocate or whatever soon, but I mean since hitting a baseball is hard wouldn't one team making it even a modicum easier for their hitters vs the other team be a pretty significant advantage?

Still with this crap?

If anyone thinks any batter could've heard a trash can banging in MMP during the 2017 playoffs then I've got some prime ocean front property in Arizona for you.

Don't let any of that take away from those moments.

We won in 2017 because

1. Yu was tipping and he and the Dodgers were too dumb to figure it out

And

2. Dave Roberts horribly overused his pen. By Game 5 they were toast and seen by everyone.
