I agree with part 1 and said so in my pre-season prediction. I honestly have no idea on part 2 but I want no part of signing him to big deal he's about to get.

I assumed he'd be terrible with the bat. Like hopefully slightly better than Dubon terrible, but range for days and a glove to die for, which was basically what we could afford ($2 million) as a team hampered by credit card debt with working class revenue and luxury talent to try to backfill on the cheap. He should be awful at that price.

But as it turns out he picked up 2 of Altuve's 8 errors from last season in his first few games, sports a sub .600 OPS when sub .700 was supposed to be the cynical expectation, and as the chef's kiss adds a unforgivable mental error to kill a rally against a team you'd think he'd have been better suited playing for before the Astros were finally stripped for parts. Then again maybe that's uncharitable since we pounced on Abreu once the White Sox moved on.

I'd say opt out, but he only has a -.1 bWAR in 20 games (before tonight), so Espada isn't letting him hurt us too much and I'm not sure we have anyone who will hurt us less at 2nd. Altuve's D has been less impugned in LF than 2nd so far.

For as much grief as Dusty took for the twilight of the golden years, Espada took the final year with a surfeit of talent with Bregs and Tucker and finished 88-73 while being flushed in 2 straight games in the WC. In 2015 the Astros went 86-76 with Altuve, a rookie Correa, Springer, Keuchel as the ace, McCullers with a pliable arm, AJ Hinch as manager rather than successor stopgaps, and won the WC.

Not only may we be far less talented, we may be in the Chan Gailey era assuming Dusty was our Switzer. I'd use Houston references but i like Rudy and they'd be inapt.
