Can we trade our medical staff for an upgrade that can fix shin/hand/rib injuries faster than, say, half the season? Or at least one that doesn't constantly end up saying "The injury is worse than we first thought"?

What about Carlos RF, Cam CF and Jake LF to hide his arm? Altuve back to 2nd.

This is going to be a long 6+ hours.

Off-day trade deadline food for thought...

You win a raffle and get to choose one

A) Shadow Dana in his office on trade deadline day
B) Watch a playoff game in the dugout next to Joe
C) Watch a playoff game with Jim in the Diamond Club

Diamond club is fun, but I would enjoy the dugout so much more. I personally really want to do A, but I don't think that would top B.

Makes sense. Correa's production this year is pretty much in line with that of new acquisition Urias who costs like 3% of what Correa costs this season

That being said, for $50 mil over 3 years would absolutely take Correa

Depending on who we are trading I get the Twins position that $50M is too much. Think you get them to take the rest of this years salary and maybe another $10M in a later year for $25Mish total but I do agree we need something else in the package to take on his injury risk and a lefty OF bat with some control makes sense (Wallner ideal).

Correa isn't worth $17M/yr

So us taking on $50M is being generous and fair

I understand not thinking he's a 33 M a year player, but why isn't he a 17 M a year player?

If this year's performance is anything to go by, he's not.

We are getting better performance from Urias at a fraction of the cost of Correa

I don't think the front offices think like that. He has a career of excellence. He's still hitting the ball well. The odds are he improves if he continues to, not stay the same. He's still fairly young.

Back of the baseball card hopium hasn't worked out well for us

B - easily.

Jim doesn't sit in the Diamond Club almost ever. He likes his box above the Clubs next to the announcers. I've sat in it with him and Reggie and Biggio (humble brag). He's all baseball - watches the game - doesn't talk much. My buddy was in business with him - so anytime we were in his club seats which are right below Jim's suite there was a chance Jim would call him and tell us to come up to his suite.

Correa is worth it viewed from a leadership, defense, team culture perspective. He's been in the big moments. At some point you churn the roster enough where you no longer have that. Especially with Corporate Joe at the helm.

This team got bounced out of the WC last year. F that

Carlos has not been "consistently "excellent in the recent past, and hasn't hit over 20 HRs in years

Expecting him to be an 850 ops hitter and paying him as such is a gamble, he's trending to 700s

His defense has been declining over the last 4 years, and he hasn't had a great full season since 2022. He's got major injury questions as well.

I couldn't do B because I would get tossed out before the end of the game. The first close call we have where Joe is just sitting there would be the end of me.

I would say A to see how much is really going on behind the scenes.

He was a .905 OPS hitter last season & a .840 OPS over the last 15 games. He's shown he still has elite play in the short term and somewhat recently. Most projections show him .765-.794 the rest of the season (reasonable).

This hypothetical .850 hitter isn't worth 17 M. He's worth double that.

I'd also take B. I learned so much about baseball taking photos of the game at the end of HS teams' dugouts than I ever learned anywhere else; including how a savvy manager can really eff with the other team's rhythm and cadence inside the flow of the game

Astros Bingo Update 7-31-25

BACK TO OUR WINNING WAYS

Win pace is up to 92 again, team is 1-1/2 game out of first place in the league.

DIAZ SAYS DON'T TRADE ME, BRO!
Diaz on a power urge with his 15th HR, now on pace for 22 - his square is 25. RBI pace up to 65. It was under 50 for the first half of the season.

ALTUVE BEAST MODE, PART I
Jose has himself a day. Now on pace for 88 runs scored (square is 90), 169 hits, and takes over the team RBI lead with 57. If you had told me back in March that Altuve would be our RBi lead on July 31st, i would have assumed we were 20 games under .500. Along with his 88-run pace, he's also aiming at 85 RBI and 27 HR. If Jake doesn't come back and record enough at-bats and Paredes is done for the year, pretty good chance Jose leads the Astros in all 3 triple crown categories His slugging is up to .465 and his OPS to .810.

ALTUVE BEAST MODE, PART II
Third-hitting Altuve continues to be just as much of a godsend as leadoff Pena. Two things that happened without Joe Espada being responsible for either one of them apparently.
He's now batted 3rd in 50 games. His slash is .305/.365/.567 for a .932 OPS. If he played 162 games at this level or production, his raw numbers look like:
100 runs scored, 185 hits, 26 double, 3 triples, 42 home runs, 123 RBI, 10 steals, 62 walks. Basic MVP numbers.

ALTUVE BEAST MODE, PART III
4 hits in a game is good for your quest to 3,000, no doubt! He moved up to #140 all time at 2,346, passing Billy Herman (,345). A guy I knew almost nothing about, which is weird because I love that era, Herman played for the Cubs from 1931-1941, played a couple of war years, then was in the Armed Forces in 1944-45 before coming back to play some partial seasons in 1946 and 947.
Herman hit more than .300 in 6 of his first 7 seasons, including a wild 1935 season when he led the NL with 227 hits and 57 doubles. He never hit more than 8 homers in a season and only stole more than 9 bases one time - a year where he had 14 steals and 18 caught stealings lol. Played in the World Series 4 times - against the Yankees 3 times - and lost all 4 times. His highest salary was $21,361, the equivalent of $495,000 today.

A PERSONAL NOTE
Really happy to get online and back in the mix and able to watch the team again on TV soon.

When I mentioned something lousy was happening back in April, there is a person on this thread took time out to DM me and check on me multiple times over the next month. I do not know him personally, and am probably old enough to be his father, and at least a few times I have made snarky comments about him in seasons past. But his reaching out just showed me what an incredible person he is and we're lucky to have him.

You know him as texasaggie2015. Thank you so much, man, I really appreciate it.
