So we've made one deal and that player is crying because he doesn't want to leave?

I've always wondered this, and maybe the right time to ask this question is next week once all of the dust has settled and things calm down a bit.
But why is there always a mad dash to make tons of trades right at the deadline each year? Very few (if any) trades seem to happen during the season - the only one I can think of this season was the Devers-to-SF trade, which was certainly a blockbuster move.
Is there an advantage to waiting and sprinting at the finish? I've just always been curious by that each year once the deadline rolls around.
Definitely makes for an entertaining 72 hours, though.
The Astros are one team to watch on Steven Kwan.

How do we have enough to get him and a top of the line starter? I'd love it, i just don't see it.

The Astros continue to monitor the starting pitching market (Dylan Cease and Sandy Alcantara included), but sources say Houston is currently more focused at upgrading the back end of the bullpen, with some of the top controllable relievers potentially in play for the Astros.

just by virtue of having a Yuli-Altuve-Correa/Pena-Bregman infield for most of a decade we've always been very RH-heavy

The Pirates are speaking with a number of teams about David Bednar including the Yankees, per sources. New York is trying to add to the back end of its bullpen, with Bednar (under control through 2026) as the top option.

Barring a last minute change, Phil Maton is expected to be the final trade for the Cardinals.
