If you would've told me in March that DeGrom would have 30 starts, 170 innings, and a 2.97 era I would've said no shot. Here we are. Yay.

Not that it matters, but why the hell is Joc Pederson leading off? This has happened multiple times now.

Because he's an $18MM DH with lower BA, HR, OBP, WAR, RBIs, and SLG than the oft-maligned catcher making 1/4th that salary

I can only assume Joc's contract forbids the Rangers from assigning him to permanent shagging-balls-for-other-hitters-during-BP duty

HOU down 6-0. Creeping ever closer to joining us on the couch.

It took them a while, but I think we all knew that SEA was the best team in the division heading out of the trade deadline.

There's not a team that plays down to their opponent more than the Houston Astros. And I love it

Yeah, in 2023 they did some strong work down the stretch against a couple of cellar dwellers to give us a chance.

Btw, Cal Raleigh is on PEDs. There's no question. Needs to be tested after tonight's game and then again first thing tomorrow morning. He's average a Homerun every 10 ABs

According to AI. The last team that gave up the fewest runs in MLB but failed to make the playoffs was the 1990 Cubs, who finished 83-78. So, nobody until now has ever done it since the playoffs were expanded. The Texas Rangers had extraordinary pitching this season.

Other tidbits. Although the Rangers have the 2nd highest fielding percentage in MLB, they are not at the top in advanced metrics.

MIN sold their entire franchise, but Buxton would still be the best player in our lineup.

So both of the Rangers' best defensive seasons in history are going to result in no playoffs - earlier this evening, I asked Copilot to rank Rangers' regular seasons by fewest runs allowed:

Texas Rangers' top 10 seasons ranked by fewest regular season runs allowed:

Texas Rangers Regular Season Fewest Runs Allowed (Top 10)

  • 2013 636 runs allowed
Strong rotation led by Yu Darvish and Derek Holland; bullpen anchored by Joe Nathan and Tanner Scheppers.
  • 2012 636 runs allowed
Same total as 2013; Matt Harrison posted a 3.29 ERA over 213 innings, with consistent support from Holland and Darvish.
  • 2011 677 runs allowed
AL Champions; C.J. Wilson and Alexi Ogando led a deep rotation, with Neftal Feliz closing games.
  • 2010 687 runs allowed
First World Series appearance; Cliff Lee joined midseason and dominated, backed by Colby Lewis and Tommy Hunter.
  • 1990 693 runs allowed
Nolan Ryan and Bobby Witt led the rotation; Ryan struck out 232 batters at age 43.
  • 1991 697 runs allowed
Ryan still dominant; bullpen improved with Jeff Russell and Kenny Rogers contributing.
  • 1992 699 runs allowed
Final year before Ballpark in Arlington opened; Kevin Brown and Roger Pavlik provided solid innings.
  • 1983 700 runs allowed
Rick Honeycutt posted a 2.42 ERA and led the AL in ERA; pitching staff overachieved despite weak offense.
  • 1981 701 runs allowed
Strike-shortened season (103 games), but strong pitching pace; Danny Darwin and Rick Honeycutt were standouts.
  • 2023 716 runs allowed
World Series champs; regular season pitching was solid but not elite. Nathan Eovaldi and Jordan Montgomery shined in the postseason.

I don't understand this take unless in your role with the team you have inside information.

Raleigh already signed an extension through 2031 before this year started. He's got 100 million in the bank, what's his motivation to juice? If he was in a contract year, maybe I can see some motivation, but he's got everything to lose if he gets caught right now.

Also, no one is saying this about Schwarber and he's also getting close to 60 bombs.

Without proof, I just don't get why there is any reason to crap on Raleigh. MLB has shown they'll suspend stats like Tatis, so I have a good amount of faith in the system to catch cheaters which means I don't have to speculate.

I think immediately jumping to PEDs is a stretch, but the season he's had is a little suspicious. He's a career .226 hitter and has averaged 30 home runs per season. Could be the torpedo bat though.

Raleigh is still only 28 and in his fourth full MLB season. He hit 30 and 34 home runs the last two years. This could be nothing more than a talented player developing and figuring it out at the MLB level.

And if it's anything more than that, the testing procedures will catch it at some point. I really don't think that's the case though. I think he's just putting it all together now.

Would be cool if they gave Cleveland the Indians name back as a reward for winning the World Series.

If you look at his splits, the biggest difference this year is that he finally learned how to hit big league pitching right handed.

His first 3 full years in the majors he hit a total of 20 homers batting right handed. This year he's hit 22 of them.

He was averaging about 25 homers per year batting left handed and he's upped that to 38 this year, a jump but not a crazy one that automatically makes me think he's juicing.

Guys are allowed to get better, and it seems like Cal has unlocked the best version of himself at 28.

Yeah, honestly my opinion was that he was just getting into the prime of his career.

These anomalous HR seasons are always interesting. Semien, Brady Anderson, and Beltre come to mind (but Beltre did hit 478, and never hit 50). And it's also interesting how a guy like Duran can hit 13, and not have one this season (unless I missed it).

Wonder what the over/under is for Raleigh next year...46, assuming healthy?

This team has totally mailed it in on the rest of the season. Literally no reason to watch anymore. I had hoped that there might be some effort shown to finish strong, but they sure look like they flat don't care about '25 anymore.

Good lord, the personnel overhaul needed for this lineup over the winter is insane. We can't trade our entire roster, but there isn't a single player that you look at and say "no way we're trading him".

Somebody needs to apologize to Donnie Acker.

I wouldn't want to see us trade Langford. Seager is hurt a lot, but still.....like to see him back. Same goes for Evan Carter. Like to keep all of our top pitchers. Everyone else is fair game.

The pitching staff hadn't mailed it in. This lineup is just trash. It was trash before they went on their run but they got "hot" there for a bit. No longer sad I didn't go .

This organization really needs to take a look in the mirror and find a more sustainable model of baseball. Buying huge free agents is fun and great but how do they fit into the locker room? When are we going to develop minor league players to not only help the big club but also turn them into stars? That sort of stuff.

CY deserves another couple of years to see if he can fix this. Maybe he got lucky in the moves leading up to the title.

Assuming Bochy takes off, is Schumaker the manager next year or is he fully dedicated to a career in the front office?
