If it's just you and your wife I would recommend staying at Privilege Aluxes (non all-inclusive option). The Deluxe Suite and similar rooms are worth the upgrade in our opinion. They have better views and a small living room/kitchen area. PA has its own roped off section of beach that is much more quiet. The location of the hotel is great for being able to walk down town to Hildago St too which is packed with restaurants/bars (especially fun at night). PA is also adults only making it a more quiet hotel as well.

Feel free to email me at: username@live.com

We are not professionals but have been to Isla 10+ times and have two more trips already scheduled for 2022.

If you stay at PA don't waste time on their spa, massage etc. Go to their beach and right on the water there is a tent with several massage tables. Wife and I got one everyday we were there, $25+tip for hour or hour/half can't remember. Best part of the trip.

That's where we go too. Very good and relaxing… and cheap!

Just got back from Isla.

Would not ever, never ever consider an all inclusive.

The amount of incredible food scattered throughout the island is one of Isla's gems. And staying at an AI would have you miss that experience.

Stay local. Dine local. Walk the streets at night and early morning. Soak up the culture.

Going to be on the mainland in June (EPM) and planning to do a day trip over to the Isla. Looks really awesome.

Looking for an adults only, all-inclusive.
Would love to hear recommendations and why.
Thanks!
If you really want the adults only all inclusive, just stay at Excellence Playa Mujeres on the mainland and take the catamaran trip out to isla mujeres for a day trip. We've done that before and really enjoyed it. You get to jump into eating at the local places, getting a cheap massage on the beach, enjoying the very pretty beach, and then be whisked away back to your all inclusive when you want to be somewhere quieter.

My favorites right now are Secrets Maroma, Atelier Playa Mujeres, Secrets Akumal, and Hotel Xcaret Arte (or their other new one, La Casa de La Playa) on the mainland.

I haven't booked too many to Isla recently…I had clients at Zoetry Villa Rolandi a few months ago and it was ok, I think it's becoming more run down.
Mia Reef and Privileges Aluxes are popular requests too.

Feel free to reach out if you want more information on these…I'm happy to help.

Staying at EPM in 2 weeks! Is the catamaran trip through the resort or a local vendor? Sounds like a great time.

You can do either, but I highly recommend booking it through the excursions group at Excellence. It insures that everyone on that boat is staying at an excellence property. Was really cool to meet people on the boat and stay friends (drinking buddies) throughout the rest of our stay.

Forgot to ask, and this is for anyone that has been to EPM. I have read people said you need to get up early to save a spot on the beach. Is that true if you are part of the excellence club where they have the private part of the beach?

When I went, pre-covid, the beach spots were first come first serve. Excellence club has its own section but its still the same first come first serve for spots within the section. You're just fighting against a smaller crowd of people for a beach spot. This might have changed with covid.

That being said, I never really cared to get up early and 'fight' for a spot. And paradoxically, whenever I've been the excellence club reserved area was less attended and most people who didn't care to fight for those spots. They usually have good views of the ocean from their room.

In the same vein, we never really cared for the excellence club exclusive pool. I liked meeting people in the big lazy river and by the bar.

I absolutely love this property. Spend a day here doing a site and day pass. Very luxurious with only 124 rooms. I would recommend this property to people that are fit as there is about 100 steps to lobby area from dock. Catamaran transport is 24 hrs and easy to do. Would love to answer any specific questions. If you need assistance planning my contact info is in my Bio

Also, any recommendations on golf cart rental? Indio is the one I see on trip advisor. Do I need to do this ahead of time online, of just wait til I get there?

Indio is great and one of the few that you can book/pay for ahead of time. We always do it ahead of time so that we know we'll have a cart.
