Trip with my wife in the first week of May. We love southern culture, food, history and getting off the beaten path. Also looking for outdoor activities - biking, kayaking, and maybe a half-day guided bay fishing trip. Suggestions?

If you have time, Jekyll Island is about 20 miles from St. Simons and is great for bike riding. Driftwood Beach is also a cool place to visit along with seeing the homes in the historic district.

Following. Been looking at this same trip with my wife. After visiting Charleston we both fell in love with the history/food/culture of that part of the country.

Fort Pulaski is a great tour if you like historic sites, it's right in the area where you will be. As stated above, you can also visit Jekyll Island and see where the Federal Reserve was created. Listen to the audiobook along the way if you wish.

There are great cemeteries outside of Savannah as well, this is one we went on and really enjoyed when we were there with Cub Scouts:

Biking is easy up and down Saint Simons' Island. I took my gravel bike there the last time I went and was glad I didn't have my road bike, as there were lots of potholes and some standing water along the roads (it is, after all, an island).
If you're going to Sea Island and The Cloisters, you can visit the place of the G8 Summit was held and take pictures at the table where the documents were signed.
Lastly, I can't remember when gnat and mosquito season is there, but I've been when it was absolutely intense. Don't forget your DEET.
Enjoy

Eat at The Olde Pink House in Savannah, if you can

Even if you don't eat there, grab a drink downstairs.

ETA: I travel to Savannah a couple times a year for work and this past trip I stayed at The Thompson Savannah. It's a very nice, new hotel on the new Eastern Wharf area just east of the Marriot Riverfront. The rooftop bar has to be the highest point in town and has a great view up the river/towards town. The hotel is accessible via the riverfront by going around the Marriot. It's worth checking out, if you have the time.

A small recommendation but the Coffee Fox in downtown is my favorite coffee shop ever. Get the horchata latte

I've got a conference for work the first week of May and could use some recommendations near the river for dinner. Thanks for the advice so far!

I lived on St Simons 4 different times growing up (2x as a elementary aged kid and 2x during college summers) and am trying to get a job at our facility in Savannah. I don't have anything to add other than this thread caught my eye...

Lol. I did this on multiple days based upon your suggestion a couple of years ago. Good stuff.

My wife and I Ubered from the airport and stayed at The Marshall House in downtown. Never rented a car. Loved it.

How is it in terms of things to do around there? I know the golf is great, but outside that what else? Seems like the wife would get bored fast....where do yall normally stay on the island?

Sorry for a bit of a delayed response…

We have a place to stay there but tons of Airbnb's, a few nice hotels, King & Prince resort etc.

Great restaurants, nice beaches, biking around the island, drive to Jekyll Island (driftwood beach, sea turtle center), kayaking, fishing, boat tours etc

If bringing kids, lot of nice playgrounds, water parks, mini golf, etc
