The renewal is. But not everyone automatically bypasses the interview. I did the renewal online, a day or two later got my conditional approval, conditional of an interview, went to schedule an interview and zero are available. This was months ago. Seems they finally opened some slots the last few weeks and I was able to get an appointment, but not until September or October.

I guess I got lucky then which is shocking. I almost never get to bypass an extra step.

I didn't have to do another interview.

I read this thread quickly and didn't see this mentioned but if flying back into IAH you can do the interview upon return from your international trip without an appointment. I know this won't help people trying to get TSA pre before other upcoming flights but it is an option.

Do you know where I can find the hours of operation for this?

Have you tried the San Antonio airport? They had a ton of openings last month for pretty much every day as my wife had to renew hers. I still have six months left for mine so I need to renew mine.

My wife said it was super easy. Just five-ten minutes.

I would def fly somewhere and get the first opening I could if I was travelling internationally. You don't want to let that one expire.

My last international flight was a few weeks ago into Atlanta and that was the biggest line I have ever seen to clear customs. We would have missed our connection home without GE.

We just renewed all for of ours (two adults, two teens. We did not need an appointment or have to go in for it. It was all online and approved. I was pleasantly surprised I didn't have to jack with appointments and having to go in person for our renewals.
How long did this take, mine expired in Feb and I renewed in March and it's still PENDING.

I believe it was the same day or the day after. Maybe call and inquire?

Ran into the same issue, but I'll be traveling within the US before my next international trip.

Has anyone ever completed their TSA precheck approval before being able to schedule a Global Entry interview? I would like to at least expedite the TSA Pre without having to wait until an interview opens up or paying a separate $80.

I didn't see any way during the registration process to do that. It's my understanding that the process is all one step…meaning you get TSA pre when you get GE. The interview is the last step in the process.

Also, I got an email the other day about doing the interview at the airport when you return from a trip. However, the email specifically said you have to be returning from an international trip. You can't do it for a domestic trip. I've copied and pasted the email below.

Dear Global Entry Applicant,

Instead of scheduling an appointment at a Global Entry Enrollment Center, you have the unique opportunity to interview for Global Entry when you return from your next international trip.

What is Enrollment on Arrival? Global Entry applicants who are conditionally-approved can complete their interviews, the last step of the Global Entry process, while they are clearing through United States Customs and Border Protection or Pre-Clearance.

Enrollment on Arrival (EoA) is ONLY available at participating international airports in the United States and select Pre-Clearance locations and is NOT available on domestic connections.

Had our interviews at IAH in late September, a week before our trip. Just for fun I checked the web site Saturday morning and SAT had openings in early August. We made the switch since we will be is SA that weekend anyway.

Yep just got my full blown approval 32 hours after hitting submit. Mine expired last August. I had read online that to get an interview bypass required having photo and prints within the last 10 years but I honestly didn't expect to actually skip the interview. Hopefully the hubs got an interview bypass too or I'll be leaving him in line 7 weeks from now. New passports arrived Friday and we debated applying or not. Really glad we did!

I went this route for my parents as well. Got them rescheduled from DFW to SAT in August.

The moral is, as many have stated, always be checking for a better appointment date.

If anyone is lucky enough to have an IAH appointment, be aware.

Wife did hers today at IAH. Appointment booked at the beginning of May. Apparently "the system was down" according to the staff because she arrived 15 minutes early but still waited an hour and a half.

Had to jump through some hoops with parking as well. Made her a reservation at the JFK parking spot (since terminal e garage is closed) for the minimum of three hours after a round trip Uber would have been over 100 bucks. She had to take the tram to get over to e, so first world problems all the way. Parking spot cost about 11 bucks.

I have read (will try and edit with a link later) that there is a 2 year grace period on expiring Global Entry and I believe PreCheck as well. You have to get your renewal to "Conditional Approval" then evidently have up to 2 years to complete the interview. Confirm this though as I have not confirmed on DHS.gov.

I also signed up with Appointment Scanner earlier today as I need to schedule an interview for my son. Its $30 for 30 days but you give it your top 3 locations and it continuously scans the available appointments, then texts you, and you have to hurry like its toilet paper on Amazon in the Spring of 2020.

I can confirm it is accurate and it is constantly changing. I have already received 5 different times when my original search showed none for rest of year.

Last evening coming in from London I did my interview on arrival.

First, the experienced re-enforced the need to get Global Entry. They have removed the automatic kiosks from the entry hall at IAH and we had a long line as our big plane, the Frankfurt plane and many from Caribbean and Mexico that came in at the same time. And there was a long line to get through customs.

If you are going to the do the Interview on Arrival, don't be in a rush. The interviewers are actually in the entry hall and it's easy to miss the sign to where you need to interview. The sign was at Lanes 3&4 so if you get on the escalator to go to baggage claim, you've gone too far. They will let you back upstairs and were very nice to direct me to the correct lane for the interview. There were several people in line (at first there were about 8 people) and they said to expect 20 minutes per person to gauge how long you will be there. This caused a family to leave the line so other than the person who's interview was taking forever, there were 2 people now ahead of me. There was 1 person doing the interviews and he was not in a rush. The next person took 7 minutes! When I was first in line, they opened a second lane for interviews and mine took 5-7 minutes. They said so long as my fingerprints clear, I'm good to go.

Overall I was inline for probably 45 minutes and then out to Terminal B to pick up my car. I would recommend if you have the chance to do it and can spare the time upon arrival.

This is new but it is practical. Last year I think the rule was renewals before expiration did not require another interview while expired renewals did. My daughter fell into the latter so we went to DFW where all they did was take her fingerprints again.

With GE moving to biometrics maybe the fingerprints are not as relevant anymore.

We need to get our newborn GE. Since we live overseas, every time we are returning to the states CBP ask us multiple times if all individuals have have GE.

Applied a couple of weeks ago, took about a week for conditional approval. Got an appointment at the land border crossing in Mission a week out. Had the appointment today and I'm assuming I was approved (got the paperwork saying I was good with a handwritten number).

Question, does GE have a mailed out physical card? The agent told me my passport was updated but I didn't know if there was a physical carry card to go with that.

Yes. There is a physical card you get maybe two weeks later.

You can use it for land crossings coming from Mexico or Canada. Mine has never left a desk drawer.

We never used the card until going through STT in May. Luckily, wife read up that we would need them for getting to Pre-check. Turned a 2+ hour PITA into :30.

ETA, we enrolled in CLEAR last week. Worked excellent.

The GE card can replace a DL on a domestic flight? Interesting!

I've used clear a handful of times this past month and it has been terrific. Clear + TSA = barely stop walking through security.

Another fyi I used today - if flying out of IAH just go to B terminal then sky train to wherever you need to be. Curb to past security took me about 4 minutes this AM.

When we signed up for Clear, we had to answer some questions. There were streets I had forgotten I lived on. I can't even imagine how much of my info is stored somewhere. But it gets me through security faster.

When I went up for top secret clearance they knew what I had for lunch on a random Tuesday when I was 12.
