Yep. United seems like it's not even an option. I'm seeing $2k a ticket.
Try flying from somewhere besides Houston. United loves to screw Houstonians over on routes where they are the only ones with a non-stop option. Oftentimes flying from Austin or San Antonio through Houston will put you on the same flight for half the price.

United screws everyone connecting through IAH. SWA's fares are up now!
Actually when I looked a few weeks back, flights from Austin via IAH were about $200 cheaper than flying direct out of IAH. Not sure what it is like now, but that is pretty typical for Caribbean/Latin American routes where IAH has a monopoly on the non-stop from Houston.

And there is a lot of competition out of Austin.

Flights are also cheaper out of Austin than Dallas on American. Austin is getting better about having direct flights too - AA flies nonstop to Jamaica and DR (I think next year Saturday's only)

Yeah, that was the point I was making. Other than the non-stops we are starting to get, most of the flights out of Austin to a major vacation destination are going to be connecting flights, so we get the benefit of competition because United knows it is just as easy to fly American through Dallas as it is to fly United through Houston. Whereas American knows they won't have any competition for a non-stop from Dallas to wherever and United knows they won't have competition for their non-stops out of Houston. So even though they involve an extra leg of flying and connect to the same flights, the fares to most destinations served by United out of IAH and American out of DFW will be cheaper by a significant margin flying from Austin or San Antonio and connecting through IAH or DFW.

Since it came up on this thread, I figured I would post it here...American is cancelling quite a few non-stops out of AUS, including some of the Caribbean routes.
