Howdy, old here asking about Cabo San Lucas. Can old folks, mid 70's (damn never thought I would type that) enjoy Cabo? Is it best to go All Inclusive if you go? If so, what do you suggest? Safety? Are there any tours for the Aged P's to take? Where is/and how decent is local shopping? Sorry lots of questions, just trying to think of some where fun to go when you are no longer in your 20's (or 30's, 40's, 50's).

Great weather to lay around a pool and relax. Not much beach access. Decent shopping and really good restaurants. Depending on when you go, they have whale watching. Also, not sure of how active you are but they have great offshore fishing. Golf is good too but pretty pricey. I haven't been in a few years, but I believe that Cabo is still pretty safe. Someone who has gone more recently might be able to give you a better update.

My wife's grandmother went every year until she was about 90. And while I've never been, I saw lots and lots of great beach pictures, so I guess that depends on where you stay. My wife's mother also goes every here, she's headed there next week, she's in her 70's and will be with several other septegenerians.

We just got back from a week there between Christmas and New Year's. We stayed at the Hilton La Pacifica resort about halfway between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. This was our first trip to the Los Cabos area, and we had a great time. Some things we learned:

  • Los Cabos is very safe and "Americanized". Exercise the same precautions you would in any popular tourist destination.
  • Los Cabos is expensive, even outside of a resort. It has become a popular destination for wealthy celebrities, so don't be surprised to see food and drink prices in line with what you'd pay in America.
  • USD are accepted everywhere, but bring small bills with you for cash tips. It was hard to break 20s and get change back in USD.
  • We did a tour with Cabo Adventures in CSL to see the Arch and city highlights. We had a great time, and our tour guide (Jesus) was fantastic. Highly recommend going through Cabo Adventures.
  • Cabo Wabo Cantina in CSL was pretty dead, but the service, food, and drinks were very good. Easy to get a table for lunch, even with a cruise ship in port.
  • Watch out for people trying to sign you up for timeshare presentations. This can happen literally anywhere. We were approached in Walmart, FFS. Just be polite and firm that you're not interested. Don't engage, no matter how good the freebies sound.
  • We booked private transportation from the airport to our resort before the trip just to be cautious on our first trip to the area, but we found Uber to be easy and reliable everywhere.
  • We only speak a little basic Spanish and didn't have any issues. English is widely spoken and generally understood pretty well.

Cabo San Lucas absolutely would be a great option for 70s travel. In my opinion Cabo is a great destination not to do all-inclusive as there are great food options but if you want a resort that has it all there for you there are some great all-inclusive options.
A lot will depend on activities and what you are looking to do, budget and so. Safety is relative to each individual, as a female travel advisor I traveled to different parts of Mexico on 7 different trips in 2023 with 3 of them solo. I would absolutely love to set up a discovery call to chat about Mexico. My contact info is in my bio.
