We have a situation and are trying to decide what's the best options.

Situation is that my wife has earned through her work a free, three night trip to XCaret in Playa del Carmen. We also went last year. You can add a night to the trip if you want more time, and we did last year. Some of the group are thinking of taking that extra night somewhere else in Cancun.

So our options:
1) Just do the three free days and come home.
2) Add an extra night at XCaret for about $900
3) Add an extra night and stay at another, less expensive all inclusive in Cancun (if we did this, which is what others in the group are considering, I'd hope it to have a good beach. XCaret is great but is on a rocky shore)
4) Add an extra night at a non resort hotel near the airport, and just spend that last day still in XCaret (I believe they allow you to stay as long as you want after checkout)

If anyone thinks we should join in on option 3 above, which is what my wife I think wants to do, what suggestions for an easy in and out place in Cancun with a good beach, but less expensive than the
900/night XCaret?

And finally... the obvious answer is to add a couple of nights at a less expensive but still nice Cancun resort... unfortunately because of childcare issues at home, that's not going to be an option for us.

Geez. We pay less than $900 per week when we go to Playa. Headed there for 11 days to check on stuff in Feb and the entire stay is $967. We're like 2 blocks off the beach and not facing La Quinta so minimal noise and public beaches all over along w delicious restaurants. All inclusive really bite you on the price. Yikes.

We love Excellence Playa Mujeres just north of Cancun. Looks like you can get a room for $900 or less for 1 night.

Sandos Playacar has a great beach but it is a very budget friendly resort - it would be a shock coming from Xcaret.

Hotel zone has great beach but waves can be rough.
Hyatt Ziva, Hard Rock Cancun, Iberostar Selection, Grand Fiesta.

Can't tell if you would have any kids with you. If not:
Hyatt Zilara, Sun Palace. There are some Riu Palaces but very mid level and hard beds.
