A lot of great recommendations already mentioned. I'd throw in checking out Sitting Bull Falls in Carlsbad, Aquatic Dwellings Waterfalls in HighRolls, Bluff Springs in Cloudcroft.

Thanks for the trip report, I always appreciate such reporting, and it's nice to see if folks took any of the advice.

When you mentioned Hereford, it made me wish I had advised a stop by the remains of the WWII POW camp. It's not far off highway 60. If your son in Bovina is interested, let me know.

Also connected is the Catholic Church in Umbarger, with art work done by Italian POWs

Have you ever done the far west Texas, Big Bend, Davis and Guadalupe Mountains? If not that's a whole other part of the state a surprising (to me at least) number of people aren't familiar with. Having grown up out there I have gotten a lot of curious looks from people in Houston at least who don't know we have actual mountains in Texas.
