I was supposed to go to Rio De Janeiro this month but I am in Amarillo helping restore power. I go home tomorrow and am so grateful the work went fast. I booked a July trip to Ecuador for a wedding and a few days of R&R.

Just got back from the JW Marriott Hill Country.

Booked flights for Barcelona for April. Hubs has a conference there. Now gotta get some hotels booked there, figure out what to see, and then one day in Madrid.

Sitting in the Auckland airport waiting to board our flight back to Houston. We did a Norwegian Cruise starting in Sydney and stopping in:

Eden - our favorite stop in Australia. Quaint whale-watching town with a beautiful beach

Tasmania - stopped in Burnie. Not much to see except for the penguins that live under the boardwalk.

Melbourne - a much better city than Sydney but just did a bus tour. Nothing exciting.

Then on to NZ:

Dunedin - great little town with beautiful botanical gardens and interesting history

Christchurch - dumpy and boring. The huge earthquake was in 2011 and there are still a ton of eyesores there that haven't been touched since that day.

Wellington - very nice, moderately sized city. Being the capital, they keep it very clean and modern. Rode the cable car and did a ton of walking

Napier - another great little city. Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I loved the art deco architecture

Tauranga - our favorite stop in NZ. Lots of geothermal features and nature adventures.

Auckland - meh. Just another big city but with some nice green areas.

Even with some of the stops being a little disappointing, we were happy overall with the ship and the experiences. We also figured out where we want to spend more time in NZ.

No mention of Burnie's famous wood chip pile?

We saw a wood chip pile in almost every port! I also love how they mine coal in NZ and sell it to China to use and pollute but gave us wooden utensils to eat our food!

Just returned from our little spring break in Arizona. Couple of thoughts....

1) Flagstaff might be the best ski value ever. Our lift tix were $34/day, and my 12 year old was free. Plus they sent me an $80 mountain credit for a spring break promotion. Snow was plentiful. It's not a huge mountain but we got two great days of skiing.

2) If you can avoid driving on I40 in New Mexico right now, do it. It's like a 3rd world country. Last time I drove that between Texas and Albuquerque it was bad, that was almost a year ago, and it's gone from bad to downright dangerous. I had to drive well below the speed limit and I still nearly lost control of the vehicle several times due to the terrible potholes and uneven pavement. I was truly fearful for the safety of my family.

Just got back from a 4 night Royal Caribbean cruise out of Galveston. Enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.

Just booked Christmas week in Banff for my BF and our 4 boys. Hopefully they will all be able to come. Not staying at the Fairmont, but at $700/night, it's out of my price range. Got two adjacent condo/guest house properties that can sleep all 6 of us for about the same price per night.

Palm Beach, Singer Island, Fl.with kids 22 & 17. Perfect weather, Spring Training MLB, Atlantic fishing charter, Everglades airboat tour and everyone treats you like your spending a million dollars. Great trip just for perfect weather. Amazing beaches and food. Very fun and relaxing. Could visit again just for the perfect Spring weather, but pretty much did everything we ever wanted to do in Florida. Third trip to Florida, the First was Jacksonville and the second Destin. Palm Beach for the win just on the variety of activities.

We went to Singer Island in 2018 and had the time of our lives.

Check out the restaurant at the Sailfish Marina Resort if you ever go back.

Headed to Budapest & surrounding areas for a couple of weeks in June and a week on the Big Island of Hawaii in July (we have no kids, fyi).

Budapest
I spent 3 1/2 weeks in Budapest a few years ago after my wife got sick & had to go into the hospital during what should've only been a 3 day stay. I became an expert on the city while she never saw anything other than the inside of a hospital room. We're looking forward to experiencing it together this time. I'll put together a detailed trip report for the board when I'm done.

Hawaii (Big Island)
I spent a summer as a lifeguard on Maui in the 90's, but I haven't been back to Hawaii since, and I never left Maui except for a weekend on Oahu. So this my first trip to the Big Isalnd, & my wife has never been to Hawaii at all.
My parents have been traveling the world in retirement, spending every dime of my inheritance just as I asked them to do. But they are now at the point physically that travelling other than by car is starting to get too tough. They've hung up the passports & decided to take 1 last trip to their favorite spot (the Big Island of Hawaii) and want to share their favorite place with us. They're spending a month there but splurging for me & my wife to join them although we only have time for 1 week.
They are planning most of the agenda since they are the experts, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they love most! But if any of you have ideas of what to do with elderly parents in Hawaii, I'd appreciate the input.
