Does anyone know if you can have multiple tickets on the same flight? I'm flying international next month and I'll have 4 checked bags. An extra ticket would be 1/2 the price of the price of the 3rd and 4th checked bags. United customer service has been less than helpful.

Check international shipping for the extra luggage

I've seen an oilfield guy buy 4 tickets so he could lay across the center section of a 747 between Saudi Arabia and JFK.

But, that was circa 1982.

Can't speak for all airlines but United will send you an email within an hour or two of buying the second ticket and say they will cancel one if you don't.

Maybe if you called and said you were buying it to have extra space they'd be ok with it.

It's possible but needs to be handled by an agent. Most airlines automatically cancel duplicate flights booked for the same date.

Thanks btho. That solved the confusion. Yesterday I kept getting passed to an overseas call center that I was worried was going to totally blow up my whole trip. They seemed totally lost on my request. Today I spoke to a nice lady in FL who was more than happy to help make the change.

Update:

Spoke to United this morning. They were able to add an extra seat to my original multi-city itinerary. The extra seat was only $209 and I had a $45 credit so it came out to $164. With the new seat came double baggage allowance that was free for the first and second bags since I booked in my quest card. If I hadn't bought the extra seat, the 2 bags would've been $600 to the final destination.

United literally has their system set up for someone to do this easily without calling. On your second/third, etc traveler, next to the name pull down, is a box for 'this is an extra seat'

cant you just claim to be obese now and book two tickets - don't see why they would turn away a sold ticket.

Thats good to know. When its happened to me its when there are two separate reservations for the same person which was by mistake so I was happy they caught it.

this is assuming you book them at the same time.
If you already have a flight, and want to add one like this, not sure if that works or not.

Why wouldn't an airline allow this?
