I guess no one commercially does Gores?

I did the middle fork of the American a few years ago and it had a legit IV on it (the chute). Lots of outfitters just told people to get in the middle of the raft, hold on, and get ready to swim if SHTF. We had a good group and actually paddled it.

It was also cool to see the river's Class VI (I guess?) - unpassable rapid. The entire group had to get out and walk passed the rapid. It was a rite of passage for the guides to take their raft off the waterfall.

They rode the raft, solo, off about a 20' drop and tried just floating that sucker like a sail to the pool below. Was crazy watching them do that.

Great river near Tahoe if anyone is ever out that way.

Gore Canyon is legit class V as well. And I'd disagree with not needing paddlers in Class IV as well, at least out west.

But ya, start with Browns if more timid, and if not go straight to Numbers. Numbers right up against the commercial cutoff is quite the experience from August flows.

It's a unique class IV+. See video (tunnel chute).

I also think this trip gets some of the better guides in the area. 1) it's a full day trip 2) meet up is near Auburn right off interstate to Tahoe (good traffic) 3) stretch of river is flow controlled so trip can be done consistently (tough to do in sierras year to year, I'm told) and 4) the class VI forces guides to be in tip top skill. Every guide took their own raft off at 20' waterfall. No newbs are doing that

Mf american is ok. Sure ruck a chucky is class 6, but who cares, everyone walks it. The tunnel is cool. It is a class 4 run, just don't fall out at the top of tunnel falls. Bottom is fine, don't fall out at the top

Gore is commercially rafted but they walk gore rapid. It is not nearly as hard as cherry creek. You still have tunnel falls but at commercial levels it isn't class 5.

BTW, kayakers are running ruck a chunky now... so I guess it isn't class 6 anymore. It is a real tight line

But they didn't walk it… they rode it alone.

I understood what you were saying. Most just walk. When I kayaked it I had zero desire to run it.

There is a kinda cheat line also on ruk a chuk

Also have Kirschbaums in Gore Canyon. Gore is ran commercially, just very very rarely. Pine Creek is Class V, which is really only because the fact the hole is sticky and the swim sucks, all factors… Tunnel falls has changed since my time there, but if the laterals before the drop kick you sideways it sure feels bigger than it is.

I can't recommend the royal gorge enough. Such a blast and a bit intense. Y'all have fun!

Looking for an outfitter recommendation for my son (8) and me for Friday. Looking at royal gorge area, looks like bighorn sheep canyon is the more family friendly spot? Not trying to overpay but also don't want some dude with his homemade raft either.

My wife and daughter did a Class 3 trip. There are a couple of different rivers. We did a trip on a section of the Colorado River. Blue River is another.

We agreed Class 4 trip next time.

There are a ton of guide companies.
