Maybe Spain. Familiar language. Great food and wine. Europe. High quality of life.
Belize. Probably Placencia. I would like the diving and the fishing, and being able to grow fruits and garden year around. I'd like the simple lifestyle, and I'd adjust to no AC, and take in the warm Caribbean air. I'd also like being only a two hour flight to Houston for health care.
Isn't Belize dangerous? I've only been to the cruise port but they warned people going outside of the cruise port.Quote:

The cruise port in Belize is probably the most dangerous part of the country. No one hangs out in Belize City!

Joining a sailboat community appeals to me also, however, the hurricane insurance is killer. Plus you have to get them south during the season.

South Island of New Zealand or Western Australia would be at the top of my list. I have too many family connections in TX to move there permanently though.

We will split our time between the States and Thailand with some slow travel thrown into the mix.

I've always thought it would be nice to do a long term rental in a place (30-60 days) then move to another place or return home for a bit then repeat. Anybody done something like that?

My sister and her husband lived in Toowoomba and then Port Douglas for a couple of years and loved it. They were planning on moving back there at some point, but they dropped those plans after covid.bthotugigem05 said:

Reality is that we will retire domestically, probably the Florida Panhandle area.

I didn't retire to another country but I did retire 1,200 miles away from where I lived for 28 years. Didn't know anyone there. I worked remotely for 8 months before retirement to confirm this is where I want to be. If you have that opportunity before committing do it.
France, Italy, Spain, or Portugal. France being the likely choice as I am currently looking to purchase a place.
