We are making a day of White Sands, but we might have another half-day to explore. Going there next weekend.

Kids are 8, 6, and 4.

We have been to White Sands last year and the kids had a blast riding saucers down the dunes.

Is there anything interesting to do in Cloudcroft?

We went to Carlsbad Caverns last year and aren't interested in going back again so soon. Will definitely return when the kids are a little older and will appreciate it more.

We are also open to any other cool attractions between Alamogordo and San Antonio.

TIA

We went to the White Sand Missile Range Museum and enjoyed our time there. It's not a big museum so you don't need to budget a lot of time from what I remember.

Has the museum reopened after Covid?

The website shows it opened last May after renovations. We went probably three weeks before covid shut everything down.

plenty of trails/hiking up in cloudcroft. there's also apple picking around High Rolls, assuming that's still available.

you could go out to the world's largest pistachio on the north side of town.

take the kids to a dispensary?

Thanks. We only passed near when it was closed.

Space museum in Alamogordo
Lodge at Cloudcroft
Sunspot Observatory
Fort Stanton
Billy the Kid stuff at Lincoln
White Oaks ghost town
Lava flow
Owl cafe San Antonio, NM
Fort Craig
Very Large Array

Sadly, most of those will require a ton of driving

And plan your next trip for the first weekend in march or October, and see Trinity site

For half day killing time with kids Space History Museum in Alamo is perfect. They have the main museum, a planetarium with various shows, and the outdoor rocket park is cool.

There are lots of nice hiking trails around Cloudcroft but after today's snow there might still be some muddy spots next weekend.

Valley of Fires west of Carrizozo is always a hit with our kids, but that's a bit of an out of the way drive.

In Alamogordo I'd suggest either the Space Museum or the Alamogordo Zoo is pretty solid for a small town zoo.

If you don't mind a 25 min drive, Cloudcroft is a great town. Cloudcroft Brewery is great and their pizza is amazing. There are a few shops in town that are worthwhile for window shopping.

I'd say that's your best bet for a 1/2 day from Alamagordo. Previous poster suggested some other great options if you have more time

My kids 9 and 11 at time enjoyed space museum sandwiches between a morning and sunset trip to white sands. Also enjoyed the pestachio place
