Hotel Mousai Cancun & Tipping at All-Inclusives

Anyone been? We go in two weeks for a quick 3 night stay. Would be interested in any personal experiences anyone has. It gets really good reviews on Tripadvisor so I'm pretty excited about the trip.

Also wondering what people budget for tips at all-inclusives in Mexico. We typically tip $1 per drink at the pool/beach/lobby bar, $5 at breakfast and lunch and $10 at dinner. Then something like $5 / night for the housekeeping, $5 for the bellhops (will get there really early and store the bags until the room ready).

We had a single server at the pool at Secrets Maroma Beach. We would give him $20 a day per couple in the morning. Easier that way.

This is the way. We usually tip our "person" with a $20 wherever we're hanging out each day at the beginning and you get great service the whole day.

This would work well if the same "person" that whole time. Do you come right out and ask them how long they're working that day or whatever? And are you talking $20 per customer (like $40 for you & spouse) or just $20? I'd guess the latter.

We had a big group and we gathered in the same spot at the pool each day. I think he told us the first day he would be working all week in that spot. So we just tipped him in the morning -- $20 per couple.

It wasn't a hard and fast rule or anything. One day I forgot to bring money and I just caught him up the next day.

The service at SMB was amazing. Not only was our pool waiter great, he was funny as hell.

$20 for me and wife. Usually we set up shop in one place each day (beach, pool, etc.). Understand that may not track with everyone else's habits. In each place there is usually a dedicated waiter and they are sure to tell us that they will be our person that day. Disclaimer: we usually go to EPM or other Excellence properties so if it works differently elsewhere then I'm not up to speed.

We also usually seek out the same employees year after year and leave a $100 tip on the last day. They come running on the next visit.

$20 tip in Mexico is the same as a $20 tip in the US. Cancn and PDC and Tulum arent slum Mxico. You guys are cheap as hell.

Compared to the people who tip $1 a drink? LOL.

I guarantee I didn't have 20 drinks in the pool each day.

This is generally what I tip, and what is on my tip suggestions to my clients. I'll tip more for excellent service and things like remembering my drink, etc.

The people make $5-$10 per day before tips. Yes, tips are supposed to be "included", however they greatly depend on tips to survive.

In my experience I usually tip after I get a few drinks. I've done the $20 bucks in the morning and then the service be crap from them all day, and then I've also done nothing throughout the entire day and received great service in which I will tip at the end of the day. I've also gone when I was younger and even broker than I am now and didn't tip at all and still received great service. A lot depends on the resort and the expectations it places on its employees in terms of service expectations.

You're going to get a broad range of responses here. The $20/day thing works if they're your person all week but we bounce around. Pool bar. Beach bar. Lobby bar. Restaurants.

If I'm paying $600/night for a really nice AI, I'm going to be somewhat picky about how and who I tip.

That being said, I go to the bank before we leave and take out about $150 in cash in smaller bills. Usually about 30x1s, 20x2s, and the rest in $5 bills.

The $2 bills go to the funny and enthusiastic guys.

One dollar Bills get a horrible conversion. Instead of paying in $1s, save it and pay in $5/10/20.

1 you get a 16/1 conversion. Anything non 1-2 gets 19.5.

You're SCREWING them by giving them $1s.

Give a $20 to start the day also tip the housekeeping a bit each day and usually get odds and ends left in the room to make my stay more comfortable
