Lucern is an amazing little city. Best part of the city in the main city centre by the water and canal. Its a pretty small footprint so explore it all. Highly recommend to take the Mt Pilatus cogwheel train that takes you to the too of the mountain for amazing views and experience. Enjoy!

If you you are looking for a scenic countryside train ride would suggest going to Grindelwald and Interlaken.Glazier express and Mount Rigi are also good options.

Three yrs ago we enjoyed several days at Interlaken, gonna be hard for Lucerne to top that great time.

If you want something easy to do Ufschötti Luzern park is right near the main drag and a good break. I found Lucerne crowded and very touristy even in shoulder season.

Swiss Transport Museum (Verkershaus) is really cool. Lots of static displays of railroad equipment. Also goes into the history and mechanics of gondolas and ski lifts.

And do the full movement flight simulator.
