Headed to Isla Mujeres in August and would like to do some inshore/inland fishing (so not deep sea or trolling for barracuda).
Any recommendations on guides in the area?

Captain Pulpo was a really great guy. We didn't catch a ton, but Pulpo was working and very entertaining. He is based on Isla Mujeres, but I think he will pick up on the mainland. He makes mean ceviche. His Panga is clean and ran perfectly. This is not a super technical trip. This is trolling or reef fishing. Not saying he couldn't do a trip like that, but his setup is more typical tourist trip. His English is pretty good.

I've never been fishing there but I've been to the island 20+ times. I can phone a friend (born and raised Isla local/restaurant owner) and ask for recommendations if you need me to.

Anthony Mendillo, Keen M fishing is the answer. We caught 35 sails in a day and a half on his boat the Lilly M. Also swam with WhaleSharks. He does shark cage dives with Makos, scuba with sailfish, and has smaller boats for inshore bottom jerking for Snapper, Grouper, and Barracuda.
We got a half day on Keen M so my granddaughters can fish, although they both hope to swim with the Orcas like at SeaWorld,

crb87, we are headed to Isla Mujeres in a couple of weeks as well.

What restaurant does your buddy own? Will try it out.

He has Javi's Cantina. He's also a private chef so if you're staying at a house he will come to you and cook and entertain (he sings and plays the guitar).

Feel free to email me if you have any other questions. We know a great photographer there if you need any pictures and also a tattoo shop owner if you need a permanent souvenir.

Ended up staying on Isla Mujeres 6/15-6/20 on Playa Norte.

Thank you to crb87 - you had great recommendations for restaurants and things to do!

Ended up fishing with Anthony Mendillo on the Keen M on the 16th and went 3 for 5 on sailfish. My two adult kids (one graduated from TAMU in May and the other will graduate from TAMU next May) both caught their first billfish!

Were booked for a whale shark/snorkeling excursion but ended up being blown out and having to cancel.

Really enjoyed the island and how easy it is to get around!

We had ZERO sargassum on playa norte...spoke with our driver on the way back to the airport and he said Cancun beaches and Playa del Carmen were covered up, piled high and stinky!

Safe travels!
